This year’s Free Comics Day is still scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 3rd, despite Diamond Comics’ distributor filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Today, the DC Free Comic Book Day 2025 titles were announced. According to the publisher’s description, these titles introduce “an all-in publishing plan for 2025 and two new original graphic novels for beginning and intermediate readers.”
Fans will remember that last October, the publisher released the DC All In Special one-shot flipbook as a springboard for the “All In” initiative and Absolute DC. Following the success of this one-shot, the publisher is using a flipbook format for DC All In/Absolute Universe 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1. As announced earlier today, writer Dan Slott will join artist Rafael Albuquerque and colorist Marcelo Maiolo to begin a new Superman Unlimited ongoing series. DC’s FCBD special marks the series’ “zero issue,” which DC teases as “a prelude to the year’s biggest Superman comic book adventure and a prelude to an eerie new threat from above that will change the course of Krypton.” ”It functions as a work of art. life on earth. ”
On the proverbial flip side, DC’s incredibly successful Absolute Universe is back in the spotlight with a new story from writer Jeff Lemire and artists Giuseppe Camuncoli and Stefano Nesi.
Here’s what the publisher is teasing about the newly launched line:
Dark forces begin to gather in the shadows…forces that have been waiting for a very long time to shape events and seize control. All the while, a mysterious figure is watching over them. But who is this powerful new character and what does he want from Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the other emerging heroes?
The DC All-In/Absolute Universe 2025 FCBD Special Edition Flipbook will be available exclusively at participating local comic shops on May 3rd (while supplies last). Additional foil covers by Rafael Albuquerque, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Stefano Nesi, and Frank Martin are also available for purchase for $4.99 USD. Plus, DC’s All In FBCD flipbook can be read for free when you sign up for DC UNIVERSE INFINITE.
On the younger reader side, plans for DC Free Comic Book Day 2025 include previews of upcoming DC graphic novels. With James Gunn’s Superman movie set to hit theaters in July, it’s no surprise that DC is moving forward with its Summer of Superman publishing plans. As a case in point, younger readers may look forward to the Superman Good Guy Gang graphic novel by Rob Justus.
The publisher describes the graphic novel as follows:
In Superman’s Good Guy Gang, 8-year-old Clark Kent is super super. Super fast, super strong, super cool. But being super super can also be very lonely. That is until they meet fellow superpowered kids Kendra Sanders and Guy Gardner, aka Hawkgirl and Green Lantern! Together, they may form a club where other supers can be themselves, test their powers, grow together, and earn Good Guy Points in the process. Future books in the series will include Mister Terrific, Batman, Wonder Woman, and more as the Good Guy Gang grows.
DC’s Superman’s Good Guys Gang 2025 FCBD Special Edition includes a new superpower buddy comedy chapter from Death and Sparkles creator Rob Justus, timed to DC’s Summer of Superman Launch DC’s Early Readers Initiative. Fans will be delighted to see characters from the film appear in this engaging story, perfect for first-time readers ages 5-7.
Now that Superman’s dog Krypto is back in demand, now is the perfect time to shine a light on the DC Universe’s other superpets. Wonder Woman’s beloved pet kanga, Jumpa, is spotlighted in Kanga-U: Tests And Championships by writer Shorey Fish and artist Yancey Labatt.
Official description:
And in Kanga-U: Tests And Championships, by writer Shaley Fish and artist Yancey Labatt, is Jumpa ready for action? Wonder Woman’s home island of Themyscira has a lot to offer. There’s a surprise… The most adorable thing is its droopy ears and long tail! Kanga is Amazon’s companion and partner, beloved horse, and protector of the bonded warriors. And on this island exists a school that trains the next generation of Kanga for the many battles and challenges of the future.
The long-awaited “bonding day” has finally arrived, when Amazon and newly trained Kanga form the perfect pair. This special event only happens once every 20 years, but this bonding day is unlike any other. Because this is the year Princess Diana, the only teenager on Themscira, chooses a kanga for the first time.
Jumpa has been practicing hard to participate in the Tournament of Kanga, where all Kanga showcase their abilities. She knows she has what it takes to be a princess. The only catch is that her friends Skippa, Ruth, Goldie, and Big Red are all determined to do the same thing, and the competition is fierce.
When Ares arrives on the island with threats to cancel the festival, Jumpa must convince his friends to work together for the good of Themyscira and protect the princess he admires.
DC’s Kanga-U 2025 FCBD Special Edition features excerpts from the original middle-grade graphic novel by writer Shorey Fish and artist Yancey Labatt. Fans will be captivated by this graphic novel, suitable for readers ages 8-12.
Early readers and fans of intermediate storytelling will enjoy previews of the upcoming DC graphic novels Superman’s Good Guy Gang and Kanga U: Tests and Tournaments, plus two 2025 FCBD Special Edition comics will be available for free on May 3rd, while supplies last. Two new DC graphic novels will be available this summer at all participating comic book shops, bookstores, and mass retailers. Kanga-U: Tests and Championships (ISBN 9781799501626) will be published on June 3rd, followed by Superman’s Good Guy Gang (ISBN 9781799504061) on July 1st.
