Popverse Reports DC Comics has cancelled orders for all upcoming issues in the new Red Hood series written by Gretchen Felker-Martin. In a statement, the publisher stated:
“D.C. Comics places the highest value on creators and communities and confirms the right to peaceful and individual expressions of personal perspectives. Posts or public comments that can promote hostility or violence are inconsistent with DC’s standards of conduct.”
DC’s statement is vague, but it comes hours after Felker Martin was banned from Bruski. Obviously, on these comments about the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk (31-year-old who died after being shot at an event in Utah yesterday).
The new Red Food series, which is scheduled to run indefinitely, was released in its first issue only yesterday. In a series of over 17, the book moved from Gotham to New Angelke following Jason Todd, working with Helena Bertinelli/Huntress to chase the serial killer. You can check the cover and summary for the second and third issues that were cancelled with DC’s October and November solicitations, respectively.
Author John Reese said among those who have expressed support for Felker Martin, “It’s embarrassing to see the creators fire the book and the entire series was cancelled immediately on the same day.
The cancellation of the book coincided with the firing of MSNBC correspondent Matthew Dowd over his comments about Kirk. Through diversity, Dowd said, “(Kirk) was one of the most divisive, particularly divisive young people who are constantly pushing this kind of hate speech or something like this kind of hate speech or something like that kind of hate speech directed at a particular group. It’s done.”
Dowd then apologized. Similarly, Jezebel added a disclaimer to Kirk, who was just released on Monday, literally adding to his article on the curse of curses, saying, “Jezebel condemns the shooting of Charlie Kirk on the strongest possible terms.
