Have you heard a new Superman movie coming out in July? There is! Some people seem pretty excited about it. DC is running a summer Superman initiative to promote and capitalize on that excitement. Today, the publisher unveiled the link to upcoming James Gun-oriented features, featuring variant covers themed by Superman films, scheduled for eight titles starting next month.
Issues to receive covers, variations, and artists who contribute to:
Supergirl #1 cover by Nicola Scott & Annette Kwok, May 14th
Jim Lee from Superman Unlimited #1 (and perhaps the finished work is inked by Scott Williams and colored by Alex Sinclair), May 21
Action Comic #1087 Covered by Dan Jurgens, Normrapumund and Alex Sinclair on June 11th
Crypto: Crypton #1’s Last Dog #1 Cover by Danmora on June 18th
Jerry Ordway’s Superman #27 cover featuring Rachel Bros Nahan’s Lois Lane on June 25th
Batman #161 Covered by Jorge Zimenez on June 25th
Justice League Unlimited #9 Frank Quely, July 23rd
The 8th title, Batman/Superman: The World’s Best #41 flaunts Kevin Maguire’s yet to be enlightened variant cover. The book is scheduled for July 16th. I think it’s a Gardner-centric cover.
The Superman-themed variation is the latest that DC has been revealed by DC to feature the film version of Man of Steel. Previously shining variations, both portrayed by Dan Mora, include the action comic #1 facsimile edition variant of Tomorrow’s Super Monday, and the May Superman Unlimited #1 variant featuring Corenswet’s Superman and Director Gunn.
We’re approaching what we really want DC to come out. It is an adaptation of a movie manga. Let’s get back to adapting the comics! Superman Returns won one in 2006. There hasn’t been anything since then. Returns also got the quartet of the first comic. DC and Gunn are not on playing tie-in comics for shows like Peacemaker.
We’ll arrive at the store over the next few months looking for all of these variant covers.
