In the age of whimsical gods and reckless governors, the world longs for heroes! What it gets is a party of bold, suspicious, dysfunctional adventurers who arrive in the city of Loudwater in search of money and glory. However, his encounter with Kobold Thieves places a fallback at the intersection of a deeply annoying local hero rival team. Will Fallback pull away the robbers of age? Or will they sacrifice it all to put all these “heroes” in their place?
“When I read the prose novels of Jayley Johnson that first appeared in, my main point, which is also my best admiration, felt like an actual D&D campaign I might play with the funniest, most destructive and biggest friends. The glorious covers by many artists, including Nate Piecos and Margaret’s Sovege.
Now, some may immediately point out that Dark Horse previously teamed up with IDW Publishing, the owner of the last D&D comic rights house, to release Stranger Things and Dungeon & Dragon in 2021. 2019 counts as a D&D comic, but this is Dark Horse’s first Bona Fide D&D title, as far as Coast’s licensor wizard is concerned.
Dungeons & Dragons: Fallbacks #1 (of 4) will be released on October 15th and will be covered by Marguerite Sauvage, Uzuri, Stephen Segovia, and Dan Panosian. All four issues also feature Julie Dillon’s back cover art. Julie Dillon draws a homage to early 20th century illustrator JC Raydecker. In the meantime, Johnson’s second fallback novel, “Talking with the Dragons,” was released by Random Houseworld on July 29th, with Dark Horse’s First Magic: Gathering Series, Untold Stories – Elspeth, which begins on September 10th.
