Danny Rand and Lin Li unite to protect the mantle of Iron Fist in DEADLY HANDS OF K’UN-LUN

Needless to say, Marvel has grappled with problematic aspects of Iron Fist in recent years, a character steeped in white savior and cultural appropriation tropes. These endeavors include handing over the mantle to superhero Lin Li, known as the Swordmaster, and the original Danny Rand taking on new missions in the recent Undead Iron Fist miniseries. Today, the publisher announced Deadly Hands of K’un Lun, a five-issue miniseries written by writer Yifan Zhang (Eternals: 500 Years’ War) and artist Paco Medina (Venom, Spider-Boy), to be released in February, and the long-awaited next chapter in Lin Li’s journey as the new Iron Fist.

An official Marvel press release featuring a cover drawn by Leinil Francis Yu teases that Danny Rand will be revealed in a new role in the miniseries.

Deadly Hands of K’un Lun will be available in comic shops on Wednesday, February 18, 2025.

A major turning point in Lin Li’s heroic story, Kunlun’s Deadly Hands is the perfect jumping-off point for newcomers to this breakout character. In this series, Lin Li leads a group of Marvel’s greatest martial artists in their fiercest battle yet with her villainous brother Lin Feng. The series also explores the future of Iron Fist’s mantle, including what’s next for Danny Rand, and is spun directly from his current adventures in Undead Iron Fist.

The seven heavenly cities will collapse!

As the Devil’s army marches its conquering army across the Seven Cities, Iron Fist is the only one who can stand in their way and restore order! But as more cities fall and the Devil’s power grows, he must rely on an unlikely ally to counter the onslaught. But will the combined forces of Elektra, White Tiger, White Fox, Pei, Karnak, and Fu be enough to stem the tide…or will Lin Li be doomed to watch Iron Fist’s legacy burn out?

“I love many Marvel characters, but the world of Kun-Lun/Iron Fist has always been closest to my heart,” Jean said. “And as someone who has been with Lin Li since almost the beginning, I feel the weight of a huge responsibility to take care of him in his next chapter. Plus, you know we’re here to entertain you, so trust me, you won’t see the punches coming!”

“I’m so happy and excited to be working on this new Iron Fist series!” said Medina. “This is completely new for me and full of challenges. I’ve already had fun with some designs, but right now I’m focused on creating the most immersive story possible. Thanks to Yifan, I’m filling in references and lots of details to make this world even more real.”

“I love the design of Lin Li’s Iron Fist that Jim Cheung created, so I think it’s an honor to offer my own version,” he continued. “There’s a lot of fighting and martial arts poses. It’s hard not to get excited.”

“This book is for fans like me. I can’t wait for everyone to see the amazing Paco Medina shine as a superstar!” Jiang added.
