Amazing Digital Circus is an independent animated series created by Gooseworx and published by Glitch Productions. I last covered this animated series almost a year ago, and it became an overnight hit, garnering over 20 million views in a week and over 100 million views later that same month. Since then, the anime series has become a huge hit worldwide with a ton of fans, fan art, videos, game mods, and more. But what has surprised me the most is just how popular the series, now two episodes in, is in Japan.

From April 26th to May 12th this year, Amazing Digital Circus pop-up stores were held in Tokyo in Japan, and from July 5th to 15th in Nagoya. Therefore, it is not surprising that its popularity in Japan would eventually lead to the creation of an official manga. As announced by the Amazing Digital Circus Japan X/ Twitter official account on September 20th, 2024, the Amazing Digital Circus manga will begin weekly serialization in the December issue of CoroCoro Ichiban. At the same time, it will also be serialized on CoroCoro’s monthly webpage. The illustrations for the official manga will be done by manga artist Sakura, whose works include ARMS Crazy Arms Gag Fight! and The Reincarnated Vampire Wants to Take a Nap.

At this time, it has not been confirmed which publisher will license the English version of the manga, so for the time being the manga will be published primarily in Japanese.
It’s so exciting to see an indie production be so successful and remain so popular a year later. Although only two episodes have been released so far, with the third due to be released on October 4th, the series has had pop-up stores in Japan and is now an official manga series. This is just a sign that this fantastic dark comedy has made a huge impact on the world and shows no signs of stopping just yet.

I also interviewed Kevin Temmer, lead animator at The Amazing Digital Circus, which you can read here on The Beat.
