Continuing with Archie from Riverdale producers to Disney+

Afterlife with Archie, a zombie horror series that put “Archie Horror” on the map 10 years ago, comes to Disney+ from showrunner Roberto Aguirre Sacasa and executive producer Greg Berlanti. The duo, who served as showrunner and producer at Riverdale and served as Sabrina’s sober adventure, gained a commitment to the series from the show’s script.

The news is also based on the comic that became a surprising hit as Disney+ enjoys the success of Marvel Zombie. The animated series based on Robert Kirkman’s comics features Sean Phillips art and was Disney+’s most watched television series last week.

Afterlife with Archie, set to an alternative version of Archie Comics Universe, was written by Aguirre-Sacasa. The success of horror comics was key to Aguirre-Sacasa becoming Archie’s top creative officer in 2014.

Aguirre-Sacasa was the executive producer of both Riverdale and the calm adventures of the Netflix Sabrina series, but the cast members of those shows are unlikely to replicate their posthumous role with Archie.

Riverdale brought Archie’s character back to the pop culture map in a big way, running for seven seasons, spinning Katy Keene, becoming one of the biggest shows on most of Netflix. Since the end of Riverdale, Archie and the Gang have gotten a feature film on Netflix, starring the Bollywood cast.

Originally, Aguirre-Sacasa had planned to use Afterlife in Archie to fuel Riverdale’s special Halloween-themed episodes each year, comparing the ideas to the “Treehouse of Horror” episode of the Simpsons. It never happened, and afterlife rumors began to spread with the Archie Stand-Alone series.

Afterlife with Archie is the second biggest sale for Berlanti and WBTV in recent months. The producer co-written upcoming Hulu pilot Foster Dade.

After his death with Archie, Francavilla began his life as a parody cover by creating a magazine-style comic life “zombie variant” with Archie. This was an innovative title for Archie Comics, the first book by a company that was completely directed at older audiences and sold exclusively in comic shops directly in the market.

According to Deadline, Aguirre-Sacasa and Jimmy Gibbons, who first reported the Disney+ deal, will be responsible for executive post-production production through Aguirre-Sacasa’s Muckle Man Productions. Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman will executive produce Berlanti Productions. Archie’s boss John Goldwater will be executive produced through Archie Comics Studios.
