The ripples of Concord’s explosive collapse are still reverberating since Sony decided to take the game offline earlier this month. Now, it has been reported that the game’s director has decided to gracefully step aside. Kotaku reports that Firewalk Studios game director Ryan Ellis has told staff he is stepping down. Ellis, who co-founded Firewalk after serving as creative director on Destiny 2, will remain with the studio only in a supporting role.
Meanwhile, Firewalk staff have yet to hear what Sony plans to do with the underperforming game. Just two weeks after Concord’s release, Sony took the team shooter offline on September 6 and offered refunds to everyone who bought the game for PlayStation 5 or PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store. In a statement, Sony said it took the game offline to “explore our options, including those that may more effectively reach our players.” Unsurprisingly, Kotaku reports that many Firewalk staff are worried about the status of their jobs following Concord’s disappointing release.
Concord sold extremely poorly, becoming one of the biggest flops in the history of the industry, with analysts estimating that it only sold 25,000 copies across Steam and PS5 in its first six days on sale.
