The time has come for Darak and Sorilla to part ways, but it was only meant to be a temporary separation. Meanwhile, a secret conspiracy involving the leaders of both societies is growing uneasy, and something else lurks in the darkness.
I had my moments of dissatisfaction with Robert Kirkman’s Void Rivals, but he’s been pretty strong lately and he’s done a much better job of bringing the story into the Transformers (sorry, Energon) universe in a more cohesive way. There are digressions in this issue that feel as though they come from an entirely different story, a clumsy fusion of disparate elements that hasn’t quite been worked out yet.
But this is a great issue anyway, focusing on Darak and Sorilla who have come to respect each other sincerely, and although it’s sad to see them break up, it’s exciting to see it become clear that doing so will create some pretty big problems for them to deal with.
It may be inconsistent, but despite the sometimes clunky shared universe elements, there’s a great story being told here that makes Void Rivals worth following.
