A nearly naked space vampire from the planet Drakulon, Vampirella was initially a horror host-type character similar to the Crypt Keeper from Tales from the Crypt. It introduces horror stories and provides dry commentary about them, primarily in the introduction and conclusion of each story.
But she quickly became the focus of her own story, and since her creation in 1969 (she’s been around for a very long time!), Vampirella comics have been published by a variety of publishers, and her home base Warren Publishing has ceased operations. Back in 1983.
I haven’t read much of Vampirella, but I’m a big fan of quirky seasonal specials, so while I was waiting for Santa to arrive, I picked up her Helliday 2024 Special in a festive mood. I did.
In the Helliday 2024 special, Santa has been turned into a vampire. It was up to Vampirella to find and stop the vampire who turned him so Santa can return to normal and deliver presents all over the world.
Relying on crude humor and language instead of actual wit, the jokes fall flat, but the story reaches a surprising, or at least amusing, conclusion. Unfortunately, the warning signs were present. I don’t mean to be unkind, but even though I saw screenwriter Frank Tieri’s name on this film, I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it. And despite the clever denouement, the Vampirella Helliday 2024 special really didn’t satisfy me.
Still, Pasquale Qualano provides some sexy (and partially gory) artwork that helps salvage the comic somewhat, but honestly I’d like a little more wit and sparkle to the writing. I kept wishing I had one.
I hope Vampirella will be on next year’s nice list. Maybe she can ask Santa for a better script for her next Christmas special.
Hello! I’m Jason. I write articles for midlifegamergeek.com every day. Wouldn’t it be terrible if you were reading this article on a completely unrelated website like Kickstarter Comic and they were claiming my work as their own? What kind of idiot would do that? would you do that?
Anyway, if you like what you read, check out the original site. Unless you’re already here, in which case thank you!
If you want to support original, regularly published, human-generated content (never plagiarized or copied from the efforts of other writers), please help keep this site going by making a donation Please help us continue.
Not only do I not earn any income from my writing here (although I may earn a small commission from affiliate links posted on my page), but I am also not the only one who has been paid by some lazy, morally bankrupt idiot to do so. It appears that his works have been stolen and reused.
No pressure, of course, but we really appreciate any support you can provide. You can easily support us through Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or the PayPal link.
Thank you very much for your donation. I would also like to thank you for taking the time to read my article. Please remember. This entire article is by Jason Brown and can be found at midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
