If you know me well, you know that I love Capcom fighting games and their various wacky cast members and backstories. Team Darkstalkers takes its name from Capcom’s insane horror-themed fighting title, but it features as many Street Fighter characters as it does from more overtly monster-based games.
The plot concerns the Shadow Lady Jedha, who threatens both the “real” world and the demonic hell dimension, requiring a number of Darkstalkers and Street Fighters to team up and risk their efforts to ally with the heroes. We collect rare characters who form a team.
Considering it’s based on the story of several fighting games, this is very much in continuity, but it may seem like a stupid thing to discover. But the long-running Street Fighter and Darkstalkers comics have built an impressive legacy over the years, far surpassing their original content, which was more about style than substance. , has been criticized from time to time.
Although the story and its continuity are not filled with traditional logic, these narratives make perfect sense in the game’s world. And they are truly amazing. Includes team Darkstalkers.
Honestly, UDON’s Street Fighter and Darkstalkers comics are some of my absolute favorite titles, and have been for a while. It’s the perfect escapism with beautiful artwork and an action-packed, witty and fun story.
Despite being a one-shot, Team Darkstalkers isn’t really a standalone story, and would definitely benefit from some prior knowledge of UDON’s Street Fighter and Darkstalkers comics (if you haven’t read it yet) If not, seriously read from the beginning (it won’t take long for you to succumb to their creepy charms). If you’re not already into these titles, Team Darkstalkers #1 means little to you. But it’s another great addition to both series for fans, and sets up the next chapter of the story (or stories?) brilliantly.
