It’s either a damning indictment about how boring your actions are, or a sign that there’s more to your superhero comic book (sorry for the Protector terminology, Paranormal Activity) than that. . The most memorable scene is a conversation about what a government-owned super team would do with full health insurance.
Column A is a little bit, column B is a little bit. Writer RA Jones still doesn’t seem to understand the characters at all, as their powers and abilities aren’t as clearly defined as their personalities. After reading this second issue, the character that sticks with me the most is the ferret. One because he has a ridiculous name and two because he’s such a terrible person.
The early ’90s was a boom time for edgy superheroes who were supposed to be mature, but for the most part they just came off as bumbling teenagers indulging in some pretty violent vigilante activities. Ferrets are different. Because he’s a really bad asshole and the way he treats everyone around him.
Anyway, at least I remembered who he was. Almost all characters are drawn from Golden Age superheroes, most of which are now in the public domain (although there were some minor identity changes as the names were too close to more recently created heroes). , which is pretty forgettable.
Still, we have an interesting conversation about health insurance, and I’m talking about it very seriously there. Given the current state of affairs in the United States, this work still provides some pretty eye-opening discussion points, and it’s no surprise that DC’s Vertigo and its British Invasion-esque stable of writers, or the oft-cited It offers a welcome touch of depth that was unusual in American comics outside of the writers. , still pretty unrivaled, Watchmen.
While the art still looks a little clunky and the comic overall still looks like it’s on track, The Protectors #2 has some clever touches that make it more than meets the eye.
