The announcement of Centipede Blast, a new card game based on the classic arcade (and console) video game, reminded me that I have yet to finish the Centipede comic book series.
Despite the comic itself being an oddly timed adaptation (considering the video game was first released in 1981 and the first issue of the comic book series was published in 2017, with no one clamoring for a Centipede sequel), the first issue was fantastic.
In a post-apocalyptic storyline where the eponymous monster has already destroyed the world, we join a somewhat tragic Dale as he seeks revenge on the Centipede that took everything from him.
In this issue, Dale devises a plan to eradicate the centipedes once and for all, but despite some early success, the creatures are not so easy to defeat.
One thing I didn’t expect is that there is a love story within the flashbacks, which is handled well and not at all like you would expect.
This is certainly an unusual development for a comic based on an old but great arcade shooter game, and I’m excited to see how it all plays out in the next issues and beyond.
