At the Marvel Fanfare Panel held at New York Comic Con on Saturday, CB Cebulski, Charles Soule, and Steve McNiven announced a new Daredevil limited series that will be released next spring. Daredevil: A Cold Day in Hell will debut in April.
This series is important for two reasons. One, Saul marks a return to the character after a seminal run from 2015 to 2018, and two, it’s McNiven’s first major work for Marvel in nearly a decade. The two previously worked together in “Death of Wolverine.”
A Cold Day in Hell is set in a future version of the Marvel Universe on the brink of collapse, and will have a similar feel to Old Man Logan. Matt Murdock is old and grizzled and no longer Daredevil.
Years later, the helpless Matt Murdock is no longer Daredevil, but he is still a fearless man. He does everything he can to help those in need in a city broken beyond repair, and when a catastrophe strikes and his powers are miraculously restored, he ends up in the place that matters most. You will be able to put up a fight. With no one on his side, Daredevil stands little chance against the evil that pervades every corner, until Captain America entrusts him with the mission of protecting the world’s only hope…
“I know that any idea I write will be executed brilliantly by Steve. When you have that level of trust, you can take a lot of risks,” Saul said in a statement. “This was a very interesting process, because the way we made this work is something you wouldn’t do with an artist you don’t have this level of collaboration and trust with.” I’ve been working on it for four years, and it’s time well spent.”
McNiven continued, “I started by asking myself why aren’t more people learning from Frank[Miller]and his storytelling? I was inspired by his work on The Dark Knight Returns. The structure of the 16-panel grid requires a variety of storytelling techniques.
Daredevil: A Cold Day in Hell #1 (of 3) will be available at local comic shops and digitally in April 2025.
