Jeff Smith’s beloved classic BONE now has its ultimate version. It comes in a beautiful oversized three-sided edition with lots of cool collectible items and lots of extra features.
Cartoon Books has announced a new Kickstarter for BONE Deluxe Edition Part One: The Valley, an oversized reprint of the first two BONE graphic novels, Out from Boneville and The Great Cow Race. The campaign starts at noon ET on November 26, 2024, but check out Kickstarter’s BONE pre-launch page for the latest information.
The 352-page edition includes many supplements, including photographs, early scripts, drawings, articles, reviews, and a foreword by Maggie Thompson. The art is in black and white and reveals the story behind the creation of BONE and Cartoon Books. Printed in a 12.5″ x 8.75″ format, it is larger than anything previously reprinted. Available in both hardcover and trade paperback, each with a slipcase. The comics are in black and white, and the extras are in color.
Bourne is definitely a classic comic, so even if you already own a few copies (like The Beat), owning it in this deluxe edition is appealing. Bourne was previously released in color by Scholastic, the edition best known to young people. ; Cartoon Books’ fine one-volume hardcover edition (the closest thing we have here at Stately Beat Manor), a color one-volume edition, and previously a black-and-white edition. But this seems like the most luxurious edition yet.
This is also the second release in the Cartoon Books Deluxe Edition series, following THORN: The Complete Proto-BONE College Strips 1982 – 1986, which was released earlier this year. Future releases will include deluxe editions of Jeff Smith’s other works, including RASL and TUKI.
