Carbon Base: The Art of Luis Larosa
Since taking on his professional debut at the dawn of the 21st century, American illustrator Luis Larosa defined him as one of the single masters of modern comics mediums. It combines dynamic reference-based realism, stylized superhero storytelling, and “control of shadow and light masters” to create a completely unique jaw drop style called “carbon-based.”
This first-ever career retrospective will feature over 250 pages of LaRosa’s raw, unequipped line art, alongside Marvel comics, brave entertainment, epic games, boom, and more, along with rarely seen covers, character designs, and concepts.
Carbon Base: Luis LaRosa’s Art is an oversized hardcover measuring 10 x 12 inches and features page-by-page commentary by LaRosa and former brave editor-in-chief Warren Simons. So does the appreciation from colleagues and collaborators, including Lee Bamejo, Dave Johnson, Matt Kint, Jeff Lemia and Yannick Puckett.
“When it comes to Louis Larosa, “huge talent” seems like a Titanic’s understatement,” said Hunter Golinson, president and publisher of Oni Press. “For over a decade, I have had the great joy of working with Lewis at many publishers. So far, it’s an honor to collect the work of his life so far! – for the first time between two covers at Oni Press. The grandeur of his unique and informal style.
