IDW Publishing has officially announced, via ICv2, that Bobby Curnow will be returning to the company as its new Editor-in-Chief. Curnow worked at IDW from 2010 to 2022 before joining Magma Comix, which spun off from Heavy Metal two years ago, to become editor-in-chief. Not only that, but former DC editor Andy Khouri is joining the publisher as senior editor for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics.

Curnow said, “Ancient wisdom tells us, ‘You can’t go home now,’ but I recently discovered a newer, better ancient wisdom that says, ‘Actually, wait…yes, you can.’ IDW is where I learned the art of comic book creation and the joy of helping creators realize their visions. Today, the company is home to many of the most dynamic and creative talent in the industry and is in a position to publish top-notch licensed and creator-owned comics. ”
On the other hand, Kuri says: “I’m from the generation of the first generation of Turtles fans. Forty years ago, I was the first kid to read a comic, the first to watch a comic, the first to play with toys, the first to see live-action Turtles.” Both Mr. Curnow and Davidi Jonas, CEO and publisher of IDW, praised Mr. Khoury, with Mr. Curnow saying: When I found out he was also a huge TMNT fan who had been following the IDW series for years, suddenly everything became crystal clear. We found someone who would lead the Turtles down a dangerous path. ”
Speaking of dangerous times, Curnow and Khoury’s hires come after a tumultuous few years for IDW. Mr. Curnow and Mr. Jonas’s respective predecessors, Jamie S. Rich and Mark Doyle, both left the company earlier this year after two to three years together. The former moved to an unnamed new publisher, Philip Sablik, and Doyle was made redundant along with several other employees. To keep costs down. In the lead-up to the Hasbro Universe transition, the publisher has continued to maintain some licensed titles, such as TMNT comics, and from time to time despite the reduced number of licenses. It continues to rely on creator-owned hits that occur, as well as TMNT comics and the like. Skybound and Dark Horse acquire the rights to Dungeons & Dragons.
In any case, we hope Mr. Karnow and Mr. Khouri can make their bosses and shareholders happy.
