Blumhouse Games’ Fear the Spotlight is set to release on October 22nd

Blumhouse, the horror production company behind blockbuster films like Get Out, M3GAN, and Insidious, has expanded its spooky tentacles into scary shows and movies, and even terrifying video games.

Fear the Spotlight is Blumhouse Games’ first foray into gaming, in collaboration with indie developer Cozy Game Pals. The horror game will be fully released on October 22nd, with a demo available now for PC on Steam.

Fear the Spotlight is a third-person horror adventure game set in a high school after hours. Two curious teenagers, Vivian and Amy, sneak into Sunnyside High School, a school with a dark and mysterious history, in the middle of the night to perform a seance. A terrifying creature with a bright and glowing gaze appears and begins roaming the school’s hallways. As the Spotlight Monster separates the girls, Vivian must unravel the school’s mystery, find Amy, and survive the darkness.

The game uses PS1-style polygonal graphics, giving the game a more creepy aesthetic reminiscent of early horror classics like Nightmare Creatures and the first Silent Hill game. There’s something spine-chilling about those square heads, which is one of the many reasons I’m not looking forward to the new Minecraft movie.
