This August, Felicia Hardy takes a break from the high stakes robbery and try something new: Superheroism. Black Cat is a Ms.S. after a defeat on the Amazing Spider-Man page by Spider-Man’s new villain Hellgate. She plunges into the spotlight with her own ongoing series written by Marvel’s G. Willow Wilson and illustrated by rising star Gleb Melnikov (Amazing Spider-Man). The series was first announced on May 6th.
Felicia’s motivation is not pure, but she protects the grass primarily from emerging villains. Her new vigilante role puts her in direct conflict with classic Spider enemies, like a lizard. But the more the city considers her a hero, the more difficult it becomes for Felicia to maintain the edge of the thief… and the attention she draws from the criminal underworld may regret trying to do the right thing.
The Black Cat debut issue features an additional variant by Derrick Chew, Simone Di Meo, Peach Momoko, Jeehyung Lee and J. Scott Campbell, a jaw-dropping main cover of Terry Dodson’s foil variant Adam Hughes. Chew and Lee covers are also available in Virgin format.
Wilson said: “Felicia decides to fight crime on completely selfish reasons, but being considered a folk hero goes to her head. That’s where trouble begins.”
