Welcome to another edition of Fantastic Five, where we shout out the best comics of the week! This week, Absolute Batman takes the comics world by storm, and a new line of Ewoks makes a surprise appearance. Let’s take a look at the book!

Best comics of the week of October 9, 2024

#5: Precious metal #5

No more places to hide, no more excuses to hand over money, no more questions to answer. (OK, I still have a lot of questions, but I get it, right?) Now it’s time to see what our heroes are really made of (not just blood and mods), and I Personally, I can’t wait to see if this Epic can shatter our highest expectations once again.

#4: Toxic Avenger #1

The Toxic Avenger stands on its own, but it’s a strong sequel to that ultra-cheesy, ultra-violent movie that defined an era of truly great (bad) movies.

#3: Star Wars: Ewok #1

I didn’t know what to expect from Star Wars: Ewoks #1, but I loved it. The art team works well together, with one style giving a highly detailed, realistic look, and the other giving a more all-ages-friendly cartoon feel. Having grown up a fan of Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure, I can’t wait for more. It’s full of heart and adventure.

#2: Transformers #13

Overall, Transformers #13 is a hit. I’m a huge Starscream fan and one of my best friends is too, so I think he’ll love this, and I’m sure many of you will too! And did I mention I’m in on it? I wrote a letter, you can too! Letter pages are fun! In the meantime, we need to get them back to DC. That’s off topic. This is a great issue and probably the definitive G1 Starscream origin story. We feel this issue could be important for the future of the brand, so don’t miss it.

#1: Absolute Batman #1

In Absolute Batman #1, Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta pulled out all the stops to create an issue that was absolutely worth it. Working class by day, suit-wearing by night, Batman is an underdog fighting an impossible system, with the odds stacked against him. That’s the story everyone needs right now. It’s okay if it’s your first time reading manga.
