Welcome to the special post-Thanksgiving edition of Fantastic Five! If you live in the United States, this roundup of this week’s best comics is your palate cleanser after you stuffed yourself with turkey and mashed potatoes yesterday. DC continues to dominate this week, but Marvel still has a good Venom War coming up. Let’s go to the books!

Best comics of the week: November 27, 2024

#5: Power Girl #15

For all its good points, Power Girl #15 still suffers from the awkwardness of certain secondary characters who don’t quite fit into the overall tone of the series. However, this is compensated for by strong writing that fleshes out the relationship between Ejecta and Symbio, and in turn, corners the heroine, Paige.

#4: Superman #20

Superman #20 features what may be one of the biggest battles between Superman and Doomsday, tempered by emotional weight and eerie hints of the future. It’s made even creepier by the fact that Time Trapper Doomsday says something more terrifying than himself is coming to Superman…and considering Doomsday bludgeoned the Man of Steel to death, that’s… Sounds all kinds of scary.

#3: Absolute Wonder Woman #2

In the end, Absolute Wonder Woman #2 isn’t as perfect as the first film, but Thompson, Sherman, and Bellaire continue to do what they do best, delivering another fascinating and artistic work. I did. With the teaser for issue #3, readers can once again look forward to learning more about Wonder Woman’s place in the Absolute Universe.

#2: Venom War #5

Venom War #5 hits the ultimate finishing move from the top rope for a great finale. We deliver a knockout finale packed with jaw-dropping action and an emotional finale that not only closes out this chapter in style, but also ushered in a thrilling new era for Venom.

#1: Nightwing #120

“On With the Show” is everything I’ve ever wanted from a Nightwing story. It’s always fun to see Nightwing cornered, especially when it’s in unfamiliar situations. Gone are the days when villains clearly tried to take over the city. This provides Nightwing with a new kind of challenge and takes the series in a different, but fascinating direction. Additionally, the issue also has its fair share of hilarious moments to balance out its intensity. Through all of this, Nightwing #120 is Watters, Soy, and Gandini at their best.
