Welcome to another edition of Fantastic Five. This week we saw two perfect 10. One is from DC and the other is Marvel. Let’s go to the book!
The Week’s Best Comics: August 20, 2025
#5: Drawing Blood #8
“Drawing Blood” #8 returns with a rather calm installment
Drawing #8 returns with a gloomy story as its hero hits the bottom of a rock and faces the literal ghost of his past. I’m glad this book is back. I’m glad you handled these moments with integrity and the gravity that is worthy of them. The creative team definitely needs to spend the time needed for this final issue.

#4: Detective Comic #1100
“Detective Comics” #1100 offers four different stories
Detective Comics #1100 is a milestone issue that offers four different, beautifully crafted stories that showcase different aspects of Batman’s heroism, from intimate compassion to high-octane action, and solidifies it as a must-see celebration of the Dark Knight. It’s likely that at least one of these stories will stick to you all the time after you’ve finished reading them.

#3: Escape #1
“Escape” #1 is a unique dogfight
Even if I was excited by the action sequence, I still felt a stomach hole throughout most of this initial problem. Some of the plot elements that were teased here and in interviews with the creative team about the series, I’m totally invested in where it goes. Without fear of exaggeration, I think Escape could be the answer to this generation’s action-packed mouse. Sadly, like the latter book, the themes Escape explored are forever relevant.

#2: Psylocke #10
“Psylocke” #10 is a complete circle that ends in an epic series
Psylocke #10 is the satisfying conclusion of the series, which is always synonymous with high quality art and great storytelling. Watching Kwannon succeed in overcoming her traumatic past is exciting and humanized for the character. Looking at the entire series, Psylocke influenced the way Wong approaches Kwannon as a character who struggles to soften his past, present and future selves. The Kwanon character arc in the book makes sense in terms of how she comforts her past, navigating the path to healing with the help of Devon and John Greylow.

#1: Absolute Batman #11
“Absolute Batman” #11 travels down Bane’s memory lane
Absolute Batman #11 brings back the curtains to the way Bane is born. Both Scott Snyder and Clay Mann go out and holds are not prohibited. It’s brutal. It’s exciting. And finally, I guarantee you will take two things away: It’s the mood that Batman feels bad and wants more comics from Clay Man.
