Welcome to the post-Halloween edition of the Fantastic Five, where we shout out the best comics of the week! This week saw Image’s Perfect 10, DC’s great team-ups, and more! Let’s take a look at the book!

Best comics for the week of October 30, 2024

#5: Uncanny Valley #6

Like all good meta stories worth their salt, Uncanny Valley does it the right way, with plenty of heart and character. Drawing us further into this story is another layer of this book’s campaign to make us see this world in vivid, unflinching detail, rather than pretentiousness or mere dazzle. Not all the stories are wrapped up yet, and things are just getting started (for us and for Oliver). But one thing is clear: this wasn’t just a “break”, it was the beginning of something even more exciting and fun for Uncanny Valley.

#4: Lovely house by the sea #4

The Nice House by the Sea peels back the layers of a compelling onion of horror, romance, and the complex nature of being the last human standing. This series is instantly suspenseful with varying levels of horror, from creepy macabre to body horror.

#3: New Yorks #4

NYX #4 continues to remind us why this book is one of the best X books. For those of us who still mourn Krakoa and love the construction of superheroes and mutant culture in X-Men: Red, this book is for you. The spotlight issue of Prodigy finds him in a familiar place to many, as he fights to dream new dreams in the face of a world where his only options are to regress to mutantkind or die. It’s moving to see. Don’t miss this book!

#2: Poison Ivy/Swamp Thing: Wild Tree #1

Perkins could be drawing Swamp Thing in his sleep at this point, but he’s definitely not coasting here. This issue features multiple green avatars, providing fun updates to classic characters and even a slightly different vibe from Swampy himself. Swamp Thing’s body contains interesting earthy tones, like leaves wilted in the cold, which gives the creature an interesting palette.

#1: Violent Flower #2

Violent Flowers is one of the best vampire-themed books to come out in the last few years, and I’m really enjoying it so far. It looks like more will be made once this miniseries ends, so we hope to see more of these characters in the years to come.
