If you grew up in the NES or SNES era, you’ll be overjoyed to know that one of the best video game crossovers since Marvel vs. Capcom is available on the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo has announced that it’s adding four new SNES titles to its Switch Online service, including the 1993 fighting game Battletoads/Double Dragon. Featuring a trio of fly-swallowing characters and fighting duo Billy and Jimmy Lee, this unusual romp will see players traversing both games’ worlds and smashing their way through unique waves of fist-swinging foes.
The crossover begins with the Evil Queen from the Battletoads world making a deal with the Shadow Boss from Earth’s Double Dragon world. The Queen sends a giant spaceship called the Colossus to take over Earth, and Zits, Rush and Pimple pick up Double Dragon in their Battlecopter and stop the spaceship from reaching Earth. The game features seven levels set on Colossus and Earth, where Battletoads and Double Dragon smack, kick and ram enemies and bosses from both video game franchises.
The latest Switch Online games update adds three more SNES games to Nintendo Switch, including Tetris-inspired Cosmo Gang The Puzzle, Jaleco rally racer Big Run, and the Super Nintendo port of Kunio-kun no Dodgeball Da yo Zenin Shuugou! (Kunio-kun no Dodgeball Da yo, Zenin Shuugou!).
