Badlands #1, Marvel movie tie-in Ethan Sax and Elvin Chin

While the film’s tie-in comics may feel like more and more lost art, predator comics are always popular. That spirit has given Beat a preview of Predator: Badlands #1 by writer Ethan Sachs and artist Elvin Chin. The comic serves as a prequel to an upcoming film of the same name directed by Dan Trachtenberg, providing an introduction to the comic.

Starring Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, the film will begin its theatrical release on November 7th five days before Predator: Badlands #1 hits Comic Shops. The film centers around an outcast named Dek who finds himself in an unlikely alliance with human women in the alien world.

“For a writer who grew up with a lifelong fan of the Predator franchise, there’s no bigger game than a chance to hunt with Yautza,” Sachs said in a statement. “We have worked with the filmmakers behind Predator: Badlands to make sure that this prequel story fits into a puzzle-like cinematic story, especially providing a deeper, richer experience.

“Badlands is the first predator film to draw so much inspiration from the comic book. So, you and I can now see the splash page from the hearts of Ethan and Elvin, the formative adventure of our characters who serve as the perfect companions of the film,” added Trachtenberg. “Deku kicks his ass with his own comic book is a dream come true.”

Of course, that is partly true. Because there were not one but two alien vs. Predator movies. Still, Predator: Badlands is the seventh standalone Predator feature film (and the only solo film to portray badly from the comics. Trachtenberg directed Prey and Animated Film Predator: Killer of Killers, stating that if the 20th century studio still works well enough to want him, his plan is to direct the next film in the franchise as well.

The preview page is followed by the official solicitation text for the release, along with the main cover of Juan Ferreira, a variant of Carlos Alberto Fernandez Abano (Cafu), along with the photo covers of the film below.

“The official prequel, which was done in collaboration with director Dan Trutchenberg, in collaboration with Predators: Badlands, a new, enthusiastically anticipated film, is given a seemingly easy job from his father.

Predator: Badlands #1 will be at the comic shop on November 12th.
