Reggie Games, creators and publishers of the wildly popular board game Primal: The Awakening, have announced the opening of the Primal Boutique Store, which will carry all products from the Kickstarter campaign and upcoming expansions in 2025.
The product will be available in the Primal Boutique Store on September 17th, 2024. Reggie Games has chosen to independently reprint Primal: The Awakening and create a dedicated space dedicated to the game and all of their future plans. The game’s Kickstarter campaign asked for around £150,000 in 2021 and raised over £2 million by the time it ended. If this isn’t an indication that the game has been embraced by thousands of board game fans, I don’t know what is.
All you need is a boss battle

Primal: The Awakening is a boss battle board game with highly detailed miniatures, set in a world where humans struggle to survive amidst giant monsters. Gameplay revolves around deck building, ultimately creating a hero powerful enough to face the monsters you hunt and fight. As you play, you’ll discover more about the world of Thyrea, gather resources, and even complete some side quests.
Of course, the biggest draw of this game is the multitude of miniatures – we recommend having a proper board game table so you can play in style. As you’d expect, fans met all of Reggie Games’ stretch goals during the Kickstarter campaign, so there’s plenty of product available to buy even if you haven’t started playing yet.
The idea behind opening a boutique store and independently selling reprints of Primal: The Awakening is to move away from Kickstarter, and Reggie Games believes this approach to board games is more self-sustaining, as content is usually harder to appreciate because it is quickly found and consumed.
Games like this allow for a wide variety of games to be created, and controlling product releases rather than regular Kickstarters with expansions and a certain number of reprints ensures a steady stream of income. Too many releases can lead to a collection of board games that are never touched, but controlled releases that allow time for enjoyment of the game help foster a community.
