This Week: Justice League Unlimited adds a secret OPS team to Justice League Red #1. Note: The reviews below may contain spoilers. If you need quick spoiler purchase/pass recommendations for the manga in question, please see the bottom of the article for the final verdict. Justice League Red #1 Author: Saladin AhmedArtist: Clayton HenryColorist: Arif PriantoLetters: Lucas Gattoni and Ryan ChristieCover Artists: Clayton Henry & Matt Harms One of the most powerful parts about all current DC initiatives is how publishers established Justice League Unlimited as a tent pole series, while using auxiliary titles to build the overall status quo.…
Hobtown Mystery Story returns this year to its third graphic novel entitled “The Secret of the Saucer.” The first volume published by Oni Press, author Chris Bertine and artist Alexander Forbes created a series of graphic novels that are eerie, charming and impossible to put on. Bertine and Forbes were childhood friends, and as adults, they learned some separate artistic fields in order to create a community. Teaming up with colorists Jason Fisher Kouch, Bertine and Forbes continues to explore a quirky little town that has been haunted by a series of unknown phenomena for centuries. From missing men to…
For the first time in over 20 years, Fleer Brilliants is back. The beloved trading card line, last seen in 1999, made its long-awaited return on Wednesday, July 16th, featuring a dazzling new collection entirely dedicated to Superman. To mark this opportunity, Travis Lea, the entertainment brand’s upper deck director, spoke to me about the legacy of Flyer Brilliant, the decision to highlight the man in steel, and what collectors can expect from this premium release. Nostalgic brand, perfect moment According to Rhea, getting the Fleer Brilliants back always required the right timing. “So many people have nostalgic feelings about…
Gwen Stacy and her father are now on Earth 616 after Gwen recently combined with the Space Cube. She arrived just in time. Unlike the others, she left a corpse strip all over town, and only the Ghost Spider could stop it, so she was in time too. All New Spider Gwen: Ghost Spider #1 is a very “day of life” type story, showing Gwen continues to adapt to Earth 616 life as Gwen continues his fierce relationship with Fabian Ramelt (son of longtime Spider-Man enemy Black Tarantula) and seeks to acquire the band together (Is Dazzler available?). In the…
Marvel Comics marks the Native American heritage month by highlighting Echo, one of the most well-known native heroes. The character, Cheyenne and the Mexican American Warrior, are best known as members of Black Eyed Pea, with his special Marvel voice co-written by Echo: Seeker of Truth, a special Marvel voice, Jimmy “Taboo” Gomez. The duo previously worked on echo in the 2023 Daredevil & Echo Miniseries, and is also behind the ultimate Hawkeye one-shot of the upcoming. Artist Jim Terry brings their stories back to life with Echo co-creator David Mack, who contributes an impressive cover. This issue follows Echo…
With all rights, the Ultimate Black Panther #19 is a big deal. Ultimately, who caused the series’ events, and in addition to expanding into the spirit that owns vibranium, it also gives both Black Panther and Killmonger the role of meat. But I can’t help but feel that if these obvious things had been going through a problem or two before, they would have hit more harder. I will also publish the issues that have bothered me since the first year of the title. This means that Brian Hill may be taking the wrong approach to the ultimate Black Panther.…
guuuuuys! I’m really doing it here. I loved the idea of “Marvel Star Wars.” This is essentially the way Jonathan Hickman’s Imperial Event was first announced. And the initial problem was very promising! But now, problem #3 – there’s only one problem – I’m wondering where this “war on the worlds” is heading, and what its purpose is in the first place. Imperial #3 struggles with taking nearly 20 pages to rehash the first two issues, relying on shocking unnecessary expositions as the issues were far better in more action and character exploration. *Warning: Major spoilers arrive! * Empire #3…
Since her creation, Kwannon aka Psylocke has been troubled by the exchange of body with ghosts of her past. Kwanon’s lack of physical autonomy, who has been stripped of her individual freedom and stripped of her agency, is the broadest aspect of Kwanon’s publication history that other women live her life in Kwanon’s body. It is something that Kwanon has overcome and is forced to accept as she moves forward by regaining her identity and ownership over her body. Psylocke sees Kwanon being disturbed by aspects of the past, which she hopes to forget. Psylocke #10 is the ultimate issue…
As a Spider-Man fan, I joked that the real “Hoodie Lac” that Webhead has is to date a woman who is out of his league (or other people’s league). There’s no more truth than Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat. A gorgeous robber who wants to wander around a superhero? Very unlikely, but it worked. Over the years, other creators, especially Jed McKay, fleshing out Felicia, and now G. Willow Wilson and Gleb Melnikov have stepped into the spotlight with Black Cat #1. Like most good stories, Black Cat #1 begins with Felicia and media resolution at the Nurse Hospital at…
Android, Aliens, Engineers, Ah, the company’s biggest interest has become the biggest tragedy of the Avengers. I’m not mentioning Weyland Yutani. That’s right, for the first time following the Disney acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Marvel Comics had the opportunity to cross the stream of Marvel Multiverse with an alien franchise. Aliens vs. Avengers was developed by Jonathan Hickman, Esad Livich, Yves Svoltina, VC Cory Petit, Sarah Branstad, Lindsay Cohick and Martin Billo. Jennifer Grünwald serves as a collection editor and assembles four Issue Limited series into one volume. Thanks to everyone involved, we now have access to the epic…
