One of my favorite hobbies is playing dungeons and dragons besides reading and reviewing comics. The majority of what makes a D&D session so enjoyable is the fact that you can create unique characters and embody the backstory as you go. This means you can add some incredible depth. The Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #5 took a unique approach to this, focusing half of the problem on the alien prince Saraka. Saraka is your typical royal family and you find yourself more interested in powers and connections covered in seemingly endless series of conquests. The Juggernaut and the Colossus (with…

In May, DC Comics is set to release a new absolute version of the Enfinal Crisis on Infinite Crisis on Infinite Earths events in February 2026. The iconic Issue 12 series from the legendary team of Marv Wolfman and George Pérez has been completely remastered and re-adopted for a new release, but the updates don’t stop at the interior of the book. Inker Jerry Ordway of the original series reconsidered Perez’s pencil for a large cover of the first collection edition of the series, originally drawn by Alex Roth for the release of the book. “Yeah, one of these days we should fix that.” – Marv Wolfman For better or worse, everyone has a different idea of what DC continuity should be. But Marv Wolfman was the first to try and redefine what that meant 40 years ago with the continuity-altering event, Crisis on Infinite Earths. In 2025, legendary writer Mark Waid is also redefining what is canon to the post-Death Metal DCU with New History of the DC Universe. In a perfect world, New History of the DC Universe would be an easy primer for every reader who wants to get into DC Comics.…

My first job since college was in a newspaper in McAllen, Texas, covering cop beats at night. I had never been to Texas when I took it. Everything I knew about McAllen, I learned what I learned online. “McAllen?! Why is it a citrus country!” And my job was tough from the start. As soon as I got there, I covered the bodies found along the US Mexican border. They are human smugglers who flocked to killer bees and carried 18 people to fatally crash a minivan. I was only 23 years old, 1,400 miles from my hometown of Chicago.…

For decades in this country, space travel was seen as this uniting force for decency and good. (Or, at the very least, providing low-level optimism). Despite very real social issues, people could at least look up to the stars and hope for a better, more equitable future. Nowadays, with so many issues on terra firma, exploring our place in the universe doesn’t seem quie as significant. (It doesn’t help that a blockhead like Elon Musk has used colonizing Mars as some kind of alt-right dog whistle.) Fortunately, there may be at least some hope on the horizon. Writer Kenny Porter…

Dark Honor is certainly a proper title. You are the only one who reviewed all five main issues. The obvious cheese (and occasional incompetence) of this “Covid Crime Caper” isn’t necessarily so easy to keep reading. However, the more nuanced commentary in the book on social change spurred by the pandemic was clearly enough to maintain my interest. In general, it hasn’t always been a great time, but it’s an important and relevant story, and perhaps that’s something that’s more needed in recent comics. But whether the series was an honor or just a practice of self-torture, it all comes…

Image credit: IDW The idea that Star Trek’s red shirt crew is a fate of destiny and a member of consumables is a seemingly universally known fact that appears to be prevalent and mentioned in all kinds of media. The thing is, as they are known, red shirts are always at risk, as they are the frontlines, security guy. Ground boots. However, according to Reddit user figure_04, in percentage percentage, it’s actually safer to be red than a gold shirt! Still, the myth (and it’s definitely one) is still strong and the basis for this new Star Trek miniseries in…
