To be honest, I was a little skeptical because, while I fully believed that Joey Esposito and Shawn Von Gorman were crafting a great, deeply human story about everyday life, I did wonder how The Pedestrian would achieve its “cosmic” end goal. However, upon reading issue #2 of The Pedestrian, those doubts all but vanished and were blown away by the sheer layers and overall approach of this incredibly exciting, all-new new series. If you read The Pedestrian #1 and loved the quirky stories of everyday life in Summer City, #2 has even more to offer. Esposito’s story continues to be…

The company revealed that its artificial intelligence platform will come to iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks with the iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 updates, due out in October. Also, the first batch of Apple Intelligence features will only be available in US English. Support for English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK will begin in December, with…

In case you missed it, Apple announced all the new iPhones we’ve been waiting for, a new Apple Watch that’s likely to steal a lot of headlines (bigger, thinner, better!), and surprising new developments in wireless headphones (three new models and a software update for the AirPods Pro that will propel the company into a new product category through software alone). We’ll go into more detail on those shortly, but first, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. This year, the two devices have remarkably similar new features. The iPhone 16 also gets an action button (on the left edge, above…

After several weeks of delays, the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft carrying four private sector astronauts for the Polaris Dawn mission lifted off in the early hours of September 10 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The mission was scheduled to launch at the end of August, but was postponed first due to technical issues and then due to forecasted bad weather for the crew’s return. On board are billionaire Jared Isaacman, who funded the mission, retired Air Force Lt. Col. Scott Kidd Poteet, and SpaceX engineers Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon. During the five-day flight, they will attempt several firsts,…

Artist John Cassaday died on Monday at the age of 52. His death was announced on Facebook by his sister, Robin, but news of his illness had been circulating in comics circles since he was hospitalized last week. I’ll let someone else write the obituary here. John and I were good friends when I worked at DC, and we remained good friends after that. It wasn’t always like that, but we all got along well with John. He was handsome and charming, of course, but he was also humble, kind, smart, funny, easygoing, and just a good friend. We talked…

The new AirPods, which Apple just announced at its iPhone 16 event, come with a case with a USB-C port, but no USB-C charging cable in the box. As 9to5Mac noticed, the official page for the new device states that the USB-C charging cable is sold separately for both the basic AirPods 4 and the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. Apple didn’t clarify the absence of a cable in the earphones’ packaging at the event, but the company probably assumed that most people already have plenty of USB-C cables. Still, the Lightning port on the AirPods’ case has just…

Apple’s latest attempt to slightly differentiate the iPhone 16 series is a fake button called Camera Control. But unlike last year’s new button, this one isn’t actually a physical button to press, but instead uses a combination of sensors and haptic feedback to simulate the sensation of movement. And during my brief hands-on with it shortly after Apple’s iPhone 16 launch event, I have to say that I actually thought it was a real button.Editor’s note: After some research, we discovered that at least some of the camera controls are actual buttons that you can press down. Pressing all the…

The company also detailed the latest mobile chipsets that will power the new iPhones and reminded people what to expect with iOS 18, which will be…

The first hardware news Apple announced at its “It’s Glowtime” iPhone 16 launch event on Monday was about the Apple Watch Series 10. The big draw here was the larger screen size at 42mm or 46mm, combined with a thinner overall design. Apple’s Billy Steele and Charlyn Lo were on-site from Cupertino to give us the latest updates, and they also had a chance to get their hands on the new device, trying out the new wearables. While the new Apple Watch SE wasn’t announced during the event, it remains in the official lineup. Last year’s Apple Watch Ultra 2 was…
