“You’re selfish. You’ve always been selfish! You’re a time bomb!”In the final issue of Power Girl, Paige travels to Asgard, where she realizes that the man she was dating in the previous issue is basically the Indiana Jones of Asgard. A vision through one of his relics leads her to find her roommate Lilith Clay alone and in distress. This issue is Omen’s solo adventure detailing how Paige got to the moment she saw it, finally giving us a much-needed glimpse into the tortured mind of Power Girl’s quirky girl best friend. There are three types of classic Donald Duck animated shorts. The first type is when Donald hunts ghosts with his friends and family, goes on road trips with Mickey and Goofy, or gets into all-out war with his nephews (when he’s not stealing all their money). Let’s call this subset “domestic quarrels,” and it’s here that our Duck’s friendliness is most fully expressed (albeit only briefly).Let’s call the second story “Incensed by Objects.” In this story, Donald’s struggles with inanimate objects make old infomercials look tame: in “Drip Dippy Donald,” a leaky faucet drives an exhausted Donald into existential despair,…

Knights vs. Samurai #1 is one of the comics I’ve been most looking forward to this year. There are a few reasons why. The title alone is enough; I love Arthurian legend and the films of Akira Kurosawa. But it’s the creative team that won me over. David Dastmalchian, perhaps best known for his numerous acting roles, including Suicide Squad and Late Night with the Devil, furthered his career as a comic book writer with this story, which he brought directly to Todd McFarlane. I was literally in the same room as Dastmalchian and McFarlane when the series was first…

Summer turns to fall this week, and with it comes Uncanny X-Men #3. Gail Simone, David Marquez, Matthew Wilson, VC’s Clayton Cowles, and Tom Brevoort are the creators of this issue. This is the third issue in the “Red Wave” series. Despite the extensive introductory work of the previous two issues, Uncanny X-Men #3, aka “Inside Man,” functions primarily to give readers more exposition than anything else. The book initially returns its focus to Greymalkin Prison, using this opening scene to add an intriguing layer of complexity to the titular antagonist. While the prison warden, Dr. Ellis, is pleased with the…

Google has done a great favor to my history and geography-loving heart when the company announced that Google Earth will capture historical imagery of the region through satellite and aerial imagery going back 80 years. Google previously released a timelapse tool that shows satellite imagery from 1984 to 2022.The new photos include everything from the transformation of a California reservoir over a five-year period to images of cities like London, Berlin, and Warsaw at the outbreak of World War II. There are also photos of American cities like San Francisco in 1938, and even one of San Francisco in 2022.…

Phoenix #3 features two separate stories: the first depicts the aftermath of Phoenix #2, with Jean Grey battling the forces of the Black Order on a planet full of dead Asgardian soldiers, while the second sees Adani, the sole survivor of Jean’s battle with the dark god Pericus, journey to the Quarry of Creation, the graveyard of fallen gods. The thread that connects them both is summed up in Adani’s opening narration: “The gods pass judgment on all, regardless of their role.” It seems like Stephanie Phillips and Alessandro Miracolo are willing to fully dive into this concept, especially since Jean’s…

Marilyn Monroe’s famous words come to mind while reading Drawing Blood #6: “Hollywood is the place that pays a thousand dollars for a kiss and 50 cents for a soul,” and I’m sure Drawing Blood protagonist Shane ‘Books’ Bookman would agree with her, calling director Morgan Harbor, who is adapting the Radically Rearranged Ronin Ragdolls comics, the man “to whom I currently owe my soul.”Indeed, previous issues of Drawing Blood have highlighted just how cornered Brooks is, but on the set of the film it really hits home. Co-creator David Avalon pulls no punches, portraying Harbour as a professional publicist…
