According to a report by Bloomberg, Inter has just won an epic battle with the European Union over a 1.06 billion euro ($1.1 billion) fine imposed in 2009. In its final judgment, the EU Court of Justice overturned the original judgment and ruled that the regulator had not provided sufficient evidence that Intel had provided illegal kickbacks to PC manufacturers. But Inter’s misdeeds in Europe are far from over, as they are still battling a 376 million euro ($406 million) fine imposed by the European Commission last year.In 2009, the European Union ruled that Intel illegally used hidden kickbacks to…
If you’re considering upgrading your smartwatch, now might be the right time. Our favorite smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 10, is currently on sale for $370, down from $399 for the 42mm model in Jet Black. The 46mm model is reduced from $429 to $399 and is available in Jet Black and Silver Aluminum.Apple released the Series 10 Watch just a month ago, along with new products like AirPods 4 and iPhone 16. In our review, we gave it a 90 for features such as a thinner frame and a larger screen from 41mm to 42mm and 45mm to 46mm.…
Ram V is a master of mythology, a weaver of dreams and nightmares, and one of my favorite authors. Whether it be his recent run on Detective Comics, The Many Deaths of Laila Starr, Blue in Green, or any of his other works, Ram V has proven that no one can use the panels to muse upon the nature stories and the psyche of the characters who inhabit them. It is no wonder that he has become a must-read author in the world of comics the past couple years, and likely why he’ll next be tackling The New Gods. (alongside…
Thanks to app updates and the magic of iOS 18, Snapchat users will soon be able to launch the app’s camera directly from their iPhone’s lock screen. The latest iPhone operating system update lets you swap out the flashlight and camera on the lock screen. There are also various other useful tools available. These tools will now include the Snapchat camera.Tapping the button launches Snapchat’s “camera only” mode. Technically, this allows you to create snaps, but there is a big caveat. The lock screen allows users to take photos, but they cannot add filters or post anything. To do so,…
LinkedIn has been paid €310 million in the EU after the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) determined it had improperly analyzed the behavior of members’ personal data for targeted advertising. He faces a fine of $34 million. The ruling found that LinkedIn did not obtain appropriate consent, demonstrate a legitimate interest, or demonstrate a contractual need to process the data it and third parties collected. By doing so, they claim that they have violated the GDPR.The DPC also reprimanded LinkedIn and ordered it to collect all data in a compliant manner. “The lawfulness of processing is a fundamental aspect of…
The James Webb Space Telescope is making it possible to detect more celestial objects that were previously undetectable, including objects that can further our knowledge of how the universe began. For example, a team of astronomers has detected for the first time a “rich population of brown dwarf candidates” outside our galaxy. The image above was taken using the telescope’s Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) instrument. We already know that there are around 3,000 brown dwarfs in the Milky Way, but thanks to Webb, it’s now possible to find a brown dwarf candidate located 200,000 light-years from Earth. Peter Zeidler, team leader…
Isn’t it funny when a relatively small skirmish over money boils over to threaten (check notes) the entire Android ecosystem? And now, chip company Arm is asking Qualcomm to make its own chips. They are moving to revoke the architecture license that allows them to do so.Basically, in 2021, Qualcomm acquired Nuvia, an AI chip company that was also a licensee of Arm. Qualcomm uses Nuvia’s technology in its AI PC chips, but Arm feels Qualcomm didn’t ask for its blessing to transfer those licenses. In response, Arm filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm in 2022 to recover the debt, and the…
The popcorn bucket wars have become literal wars with Cinemark’s latest release, Gladiator II. The theater chain’s newest addition is not only shaped like Rome’s Colosseum, but when you wave your smartphone over the QR code (AR-ENA, get it?) on the bottom, you’ll see a cute augmented reality gladiator fight. will be played. The butter on the popcorn is Cinemark’s tagline: “War is edible.”In fact, all of the ad copy is spectacularly cheap. “The core of all power, all honor is for the glory of Rome. As you preside over this gladiatorial arena, you can…eat war. Finish your popcorn and…
Tablets are the perfect middle ground between your phone and laptop, giving you the best of both worlds. Whether you want a lightweight device to binge your favorite shows, a larger screen for mobile gaming or a portable way to get some work done on the go, a tablet can do it all. They’re also great for keeping kids entertained, managing work tasks or sharing family moments through video calls. When a phone feels too small and lugging around a laptop is just too much, that’s where tablets fit into the mix.For many, the Apple iPad is the go-to choice,…
Two years after filing a lawsuit against his former close partner, Arm has taken his feud with Qualcomm to the next level. According to Bloomberg, the British semiconductor company has revoked the architecture license that allowed Qualcomm to use its intellectual property and chip design standards. As the news outlet notes, Qualcomm, like many other chipmakers, uses Arm’s computer code, which the chips need to run software such as operating systems. Arm has reportedly given Qualcomm 60 days’ notice of termination, but if an agreement is not reached by then, it could have a significant impact on both companies’ finances…
