I hope that doesn’t happen with OpenAI and the evidence lost in the New York Times plagiarism lawsuit.Wired reports that a court statement filed by The New York Times on Wednesday says that OpenAI engineers accidentally erased evidence of the AI’s…

Researchers at University College London have achieved what celebrity chefs and Italian nonnas could only dream of. They created the world’s thinnest spaghetti. This culinary achievement, published in Nanoscale Advances, produced strands of starch nanofibers just 372 nanometers wide. It is invisible to the naked eye and is even smaller than some wavelengths of light.Although “the world’s thinnest spaghetti” sounds silly, starch actually has important uses in medicine. For example, using nanofiber starch in bandages can help wounds heal by allowing moisture to pass through while keeping bacteria out. Instead of going through the energy-intensive process of refining their own…
Image credit: Dynamite Entertainment Dark Horse’s Terminator comics, like Alien and Predator, have tended to be of a somewhat mixed but decent quality, but they’re often to blame for Sarah Connor’s The problem was that I was too fixated on the formula of how I would appear. Of course, movies have done the same thing, featuring the same characters over and over again. It’s a relief that Dynamite’s new Terminator series doesn’t do anything like that. The first article in this issue is the first in a series that follows U.S. GI Duggan during his departure from Nam at the…

Cartoonist Jesse Lonergan will release a new tarot deck, The Unveiled Tarot, from Union Square & Company in January. The deck, which comes with a booklet with information from comics legend Mike Mignola, reveals Lonergan’s use of the picture-within-a-picture concept for the 78 archetypes of the Tarot. I’ve seen copies of this deck and it’s just a great physical piece of art, with just a beautiful set of provocative images. It’s no surprise that Lonergan is one of the most exciting artists in comics today, with award-winning projects behind such singular and gorgeous books as Man’s Best, Miss Truesdale, and…
