With less than a year until Windows 10’s end date, those still using the operating system should start preparing to enter the Windows 11 era. And Microsoft imposes hardware requirements on current OSes, which can be a problem for people with older machines.Windows 11 requires your computer to have TPM 2.0. Also known as the Trusted Platform Module, it is a specialized chip or firmware used for device security, and the 2.0 version offers some useful features to improve encryption and cryptography. Microsoft’s blog post outlines all the benefits and why it should be a core part of your Windows…
Hank McCoy has been kidnapped. Not only that, but he is being held captive in what was once Charles Xavier’s school. Judging by the cover of this issue, I’m sure Cyclops will handle this successfully and won’t run into any unexpected problems. Yes, certainly. But let’s also address the elephant in the room. The series has eight issues, with crossovers between titles. why? Well, it’s very simple. Two X-Men teams are active, one led by Rogue (as seen in Gail Simone’s Uncanny X-Men) and the other by Cyclops. Given the offensive nature of the Cyclops’ plan, there will likely be…
The cosmic portion of the Marvel Universe has always been a place of wandering rogues, each compelling enough to develop their own stories, but forever left in the background of other stories. It’s a part of the universe that is largely undocumented outside of its singular protagonist (and these days, its singular team). This does not mean that the population was sparse. Pick up almost any issue of 1987’s Silver Surfer and you’ll be greeted with any number of short-lived villains, from a space pirate lizard to a group of Galactus’ former heralds. If “The Surfer” had the appeal that the…
For the past few years, I’ve been following The Amazing Spider-Man Masterworks and Zev Wells’ The Amazing Spider-Man in parallel. So now might be the time to step into something a little different, with both active and dormant works. -About Spider-Girl by DeFalco and Frenz. wonderWhy Spider Girl? Is there some kind of spider-like hole in my heart? Have I steadily gotten so hooked on Marvel’s Spider stories that I’m now forced to get dirty and try as many as I can? No. I enjoy the webhead, but after this stretch I can bear to ignore him for a while.…
Washington, D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb is suing Amazon for excluding certain ZIP codes from enjoying Amazon Prime’s fast delivery. Schwalb claims that starting in 2022, Amazon stopped using its delivery system to the 7th and 8th Wards, but is still charging those customers the same amount for their Prime subscriptions. According to Census Reporters, the 7th and 8th Wards are 83% and 82% black, respectively.Instead of using its own trucks, Amazon relies on UPS and USPS carriers for deliveries, a decision that results in longer delivery times, according to the complaint. Only 24% of packages to these districts were…
This is a long one. You might want to get a hot beverage and get comfy. In August of 2024, one of the most informative articles about the state of the comics industry was published on the internet, to little comment. It was written by comics author Rob Williams and it was called How to Get Your Comic Optioned For Film Or TV (And What That Really Means…). With so much comics publishing these days aimed at the ultimate goal of media adaptation, it seems odd that more people haven’t examined this business model. As business models go, it’s pretty…
Image credit: Invision Comics The Grunnod are a militaristic people who have enriched themselves by enslaving themselves at the expense of the entire galaxy. But their terrible reign may soon be coming to an end. One of their slaves, Kaisax, survives a thwarted prison escape and stumbles upon a spectacular discovery that forever changes his fate, and the fate of the universe itself. This first issue of Genecy, written by Gerald Cooper, doesn’t skimp on the spectacle, with events unfolding on a massive, epic scale on almost every page. However, looking at the current state of the universe, it feels…
As with any overly marketed products, the claims around virtual private networks (VPNs) can be fishy. Phrases like “military-grade encryption” or “total anonymity” aren’t verifiable, and certainly won’t help you decide which services suit your browsing needs best. As more of these companies embrace influencer marketing to sell their products, the obscure lingo has only grown, making it a confusing field to navigate, despite VPNs’ importance for online security. We tested nine of the most popular VPN services available now to come up with our top picks, and lay out what you should know before paying for one. Our top pick…
The Riddler has taken control of a huge corporation and is up to something, James Gordon appears to have committed murder, and the cover of Batman #155 hints at the return of the Court of Owls. It’s just another day for Batman, but it’s decidedly more complicated than usual! Writer Chip Zdarsky’s final story arc, this week’s edition, explores how James Gordon mixed things with blood on his hands. This is an episode focused on bottles.Batman #155 focuses primarily on Gordon, with Jorge Fornes joining the story and dramatically changing the tone and visual aesthetic. The plot continues to progress…
Absolute Superman #1 arrives with a bold new take and a fascinating backstory involving the planet Krypton. It also ended on a cliffhanger with Lois Lane as Superman, a kind of soldier and target of Peacemaker-inspired enemies. Continuing from this week’s second issue, it’s an immediately intriguing title in more ways than one.Absolute Superman #2 begins six years before Superman is handcuffed to Lois Lane. Back on Krypton, we learn a little more about Kal-El, a teenager who is receiving feedback from his school. The caste system is alive and well, and it’s fun to pick up little details like…
