Beginning with last year’s issue #18, Chris Condon and Montos officially took over on Green Arrow. And in that time, the pair have developed a grounded, noir-leaning take on the Emerald Archer, with the bulk of the story so far focused on the saga of Freshwater. Now, with the bombastic first arc over, the pair are looking toward the future with this week’s issue #25. And what better future than one featuring Roy Harper, his daughter Lian Harper, and a story reminiscent of a seminal Green Arrow storyline? More specifically, this latest arc references and re-explores “Snowbirds Don’t Fly.” A two-parter…
Seasons has been the snack in the series since it was released in January. That visually whimsical, existential sense of fear is evident, and during that time the eclectic group of sisters becomes a fun dynamic with their attitudes and names marked for this season. In four issues, the circus comes to town and wants to do something terrible, and it appears that he did something in the summer, his younger sister in spring. Next, unpack the fallout. Seasons #5 begins with an extreme close-up of the Spring Eyes. She looks at the circus tent and somehow grows bigger. She…
A truly wonderful “silly joke” is like a fart. You can keep it with everything you want, but in the end you need to share it.It’s like we’re with Moonshine Bigfoot. In the first two issues, the creative team (co-writer Mike Marlow, co-writer Zack Howard, Penciller’s Steve Ellis, colorist Nelson Daniel, designer Thompson Knox) could have been a Bonkers story about the super-hot girlfriend Bonkers who was particularly embarrassed and caused the Moon Sun Running Sasquatch. Light. Instead, there was less immaturity and total hilarity, and more effective worldbuilding and character development. But now that Hijink has really passed away, it’s…
This week we’re a sci-fi spy drama that kicks #4 down into new gear. We’re talking about the robot’s arms, murder, and Burt Reynolds, who appears to be playing the beat. Annalize runs alongside his father’s robot. The father’s robot is with the enemy whose father’s consciousness is everywhere. It’s probably not the best situation for a preteen girl to enter, but that’s where there’s a lot of fun. We’ll beat everyone with us #4 is a step beyond the last issue, adding some juicy conflict and sci-fi oddity. In addition to the fun, the super spy introduced in the…
When we last left Mark Miller and Rafael Albuquerque’s Huck, he enlisted from his mother and Mr Harper to track down other supermarkets. He was also just dumped by his first girlfriend, which puts the wrench on the whole idea of Hack’s famous hack’s “making the good deeds of the day into a day” idea. But when the trio travel to big cities, they discover new things about their different abilities and other supers in their world, as if they don’t have the same moral compass that Huck does.Huck: Big Bad World #2 introduces Lorenzo, the first new super in…
Get ready for blood, beasts, brutal battles. The month that comes from the image comic has arrived in September this year. Eisner Award-winning author Joe Pruett (voice in my head, cable) joins forces with acclaimed artist Marcelo Fulsin (Hellblazer, Loveless) for a five-island horror miniseries that combines Norse mythology with supernatural horror. Set in 1003, Viking Moon begins with Rayf Erickson’s legendary expedition to North America, where his settlement in Vineland (modern Newfoundland) encounters an indescribable fate. Now, 20 years from now, a new group of Vikings led by fierce warrior Wolf will face the same horrifying threat: werewolves. What…
Comic Conventions are dreams and nightmares. The chaotic crowd, sleepless nights lined up, the holy grail of the legendary Hall H panels all clash in fear of Hall H, a new horror anthology that arrived in July this year from Image Comics and Saisy Publishing. Writers Jordan Hart (Ripple Effect) and Chris Liall (Zombies vs. Robots) unleash twisted love letters to the con artist’s culture, turning the familiar fan experience into a spine-shaking horror story. Teasing first with a special holiday horror, this oversized one-shot is a place with long lines and limited items, hiding right next to the showroom…
Acclaimed author Kieron Gillen (Evil + God’s Fantasy) works with fan favorite artist Steve Lieber (Fix, Jimmy Olsen) and collaborates with colorist Tamra Bonvillain (formerly & Future) to praise the new one-shot entitled Closer. Originally serialized over issue #7–9 in the image! Anthology, complete storylines will be available in standalone comics this fall. A bird suddenly appears and approaches, and ends with nothing but heavenly death. It is described as a cosmic horror story that you can dance with, the story is part romance, part alphabets, and all pop singles energy. “Everyone who knows me knows I love talking about…

It feels very dark now. It looks like you’re watching it everywhere on the news, but something terrible is happening. That our institutions, like governments and business organizations, are opposed to us. More stricter laws are being passed than ever before to suppress, dehumanize and criminalize minorities. That xenophobia is entrenched everywhere. The masked thugs are carrying out suspicious goals on behalf of the government, invading communities and destroying those deemed “illegal.” Already wealthy people seem to be enriching every day as they use sociopolitical disparities as a cover for wholesale capitalist reapers. I sometimes feel very dark these days.…
