SDCC Coverage sponsored by Mad Cave Sam Prentice-Jones’ debut graphic novel Arcana: The Lost Heir was released on June 24, 2025 using Hot Key Books and is the first graphic novel for Bonnier Books UK Imprint. Featuring the summer of 2025, the indie features picks from independent bookstores across the United States. Author and illustrator Prentice Jones filled Harry Potter-shaped holes in queer hearts around the world with a tarot-style fantasy graphic novel. Arcana tells the stories of Eli, James, Daphne, Coco and Sunny. They are five individuals who grew up in the Arcana Magical Society, a contract…
The iconic Age Apocalypse storyline makes a massive comeback with the Apocalypse X-Men, a brand new issue six event released in September by Marvel Comics this fall. Legendary author Jeff Loeb, who helped create the original 1995 crossover, worked with Eisner-nominated artist Simone Di Me to rekindle the mutant dystopia that changed the X-Men forever. Is it even more exciting? X-Men fan favorite Joe Madureira returns to the franchise for the first time in decades, with her unique art style that helped define the look of the X-Books in the 90s. He draws variant covers in every issue of the…
The king of cartoons is officially immortal on the streets where his legend began. On July 9th, Marvel joined the Kirby family and unveiled “Jack Kirby Way” and “Yancy Street” on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The tribute celebrates not only Kirby’s towering legacy, but also his roots in New York City, the birthplace of many of his life and Marvel’s biggest works. At the heart of the event was a heartfelt nod to the Fantastic Four. For Marvel, this moment is a powerful reminder of Kirby’s visionary creativity and the city that helps shape it. As Marvel said: “The Fantastic…
SDCC Coverage sponsored by Mad Cave On a recent Saturday this summer, comic writer Mark Russell woke up early and headed through a busy convention center to a folding table stacked high in graphic novels. An indie book that invites Batman, Superman and billionaires to Kett. Russell sat behind their stacks and prepared to spend the day meeting new readers. However, Russell was not at San Diego Comic Con, the summer comic event that premiered. Russell wasn’t actually a comic show. He was at the American Library Association’s annual conference. And he was not alone. Dozens of other…

In collaboration with Hasbro, Skybound and Image Comics is raising volumes on Gi Joe: Cold Slither #1, a new one-shot comic hit shelf October 1st. Inspired by the infamous GI Joe Animation Band, Cold Slither has a chaotic tongue look from a fictional heavy metal group (and certainly not just a disguised dreadknock). Talked from the band’s own distorted perspective, the comic dives into their meteor rise, mind control music, and a showdown with GI Joe when Cobra uses rock and roll to conquer the world. Tim Seely calls the project a decades-old obsession, but it eventually unleashed, but Juan…
SDCC Coverage sponsored by Mad Cave Frankly, Judge Dread is not a character that may be associated with going to the beach, but that’s exactly where writers Al Ewing and Dan Cornwell took him with him in his new story, Costa Ferratu. Perhaps it’s not about dread playing volleyball and getting sunburned (can you imagine it?). In fact, it’s a kind of follow-up to the rather creepy story that appeared in Judge Dread Year – dating back so far back to 1989. So I just have this interview with Ewing and Cornwell speak for itself along with a…
Just in time for Halloween, Marvel is causing horror with Black, White and Blood and Guts, the new fourth series in the acclaimed black, white and blood lines. These bone-freezing stories are brought to life in black and white, with a red splash of blood to energize the horror. Featuring a mix of superstar creators and emerging talent, the series dives deep into the supernatural aspects of the Marvel universe where monsters roam and heroes are not always safe. This is what bothers the first problem: Acclaimed duo Al Ewing and Kef Walker offer a terrifying new blade story. G.…
