Less than five months later, Boundless Publishing (the successor to crowdfunding publisher Unbound) collapsed. The British company filed for bankruptcy on August 1, and threatened legal action to return their rights to work, after a catastrophic period that infuriated the author and denied royalties. Unbound, also known as United’s Author Publishing, was released in 2011 by authors John Michinson, Justin Pollard and Dunkiran during the crowdfunding boom (released in 2009). The premise was to serve the author directly and bridge the gap between self-publishing and traditional distribution. The author crowdfunds ongoing titles on the platform, providing exclusive updates and bonuses…

Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan have the real knack for reaching almost childlike horror in primal. This is the talent they unfolded at last year’s Kill Your Darlings, and I felt that it would hit a similar creepy sweet spot as soon as their latest work was announced. Blink and you miss it mainly because they focus on setting the tone and dropping us on an ongoing journey. We get a big touch with the hero, even if we don’t really know what she’s looking for in this early stage. We know that she’s been home a long time…

At this point, the zombie story has more than the actual earthly corpses to actually revive. But we keep skimming through the cemetery regardless of new offerings, some of which are derivative excuses for undead cannibalism, but always gems rise from the ground. One such title already shuffled in our minds is that everything is dead and dying from writer Tate Blombar (Batgirl) and artist Jacob Phillips (New Bern).…

WARNING: Some spoilers ahead for Toxic Avenger Comics and Toxic Crusaders. Matt Bors was wise to go into Toxic Avenger with some hesitation. “I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect when you take a beloved property and tinker with it a little bit,” Bors said during a recent Zoom call. “Sometimes people are really precious about that, or have opinions about how you’re executing it. I think one thing working in my favor is that Toxic Avenger did not originate as a comic book. It’s a cult movie, and those movies still exist and aren’t sullied by my comic if…
