This is a special one-shot that collects debut issues for four core titles: the original Saga: Amazing X-Men #1, Factor X #1, Weapon X #1, and Amazing X-Men #1. Political Comedy Podcast Chapo Trap House will work with publisher Bad Egg to bring fans to zero per year. The comic is a new horror anthology of podcast teams and hosts, and is the first volume in the three-volume series. Chapo host Will Menaker and publishing director of Bad Egg, Robert Meyers spoke with Beat about interviewing Alan Moore and interviewing Zero’s five brand new stories. Javier Perez: Retailer Conference, maybe Comics Pro? I happened to see your chapo logo and I said, “What is this? I thought they were doing audio things. How did you create the comics? How…
Image Comics has announced that Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans will be reuniting with Die: Loaded. The new volume is chosen a year after the original comic (which originally ran from 2018 to 2021) and returns from the world he created as a teenager, and the protagonist tries to live a normal life again. “They’ve finished the game,” the summary says. “But the game doesn’t end with them.” Like many Gillen comics, the series received a three-page teaser, but is warned, but ruins the original series. “Die was created by us to talk about fantasy and reality. As long as…
Acclaimed French author Sylvain Lamberg (Watchdog, Warship: Jolly Roger) works with Harvey Award-winning artist Mirca Andolfo (Sweet Paprika, Unnatural) for York Under Under York. Arrived this winter from the image comic, the graphic novel shows the first US printing of one of Anderfo’s previous works. The story unfolds in two worlds: the vibrant daily streets of New York City and the secret magical twins below York. The center features Alison Walker, a talented young Manhattan painter who hides dangerous truths. She is a witch. Allison is from York. This was ruled for centuries by five powerful cotts that were as…
A Special Programming Note: Beginning with this week’s edition, Chris Coplan is returning to Judging by the Cover full-time. We’d like to thank Colin Moon for all of his hard work, and for joyously stewarding JBTC and maintaining this column’s geeky vibes and unwavering commitment to all great comics. Now, on the with show! Most comic book fans have a solid idea about what they’re going to buy every week as they descend upon their local comic shop. With that said, there’s still a lot of fun to be had just glancing at the week’s new releases and taking a…

Tom King’s Helen of Windawn, Bilkis Evely, Mateus Lopez and Clayton Cowles were one of the most nominated books at this year’s Eisner Awards. It is a kind of fictional biography of a daughter to the type of Robert E. Howard that he didn’t have, and this book is a fantasy masterpiece, a very complicated way of not dealing with emotional trauma. Until it actually hits you in the face. Of that team, Evely won the Variant Cover Artist, with Best Penciller/Inker, Cowles for Best Latering and the first issue, Tula Lotay, to be Best Cover Artist. The book itself…
Needless to say, the launch of the Energon Universe from Skybound is an incredible success for Skybound. No one ignores younger readers, but Skybound is the recently released Transformers: The Worst Bot: Meet Ball Point. This is the first series of graphic novels in a new series by authors Brian “Smitty” Smith and Artist Marz Jr., under the Skybound Comet imprint. Beat introduced the opportunity to chat with creatives to discuss how this new graphic novel appeals to Transformers fans of all ages, and to become a breakout character in the Transformers franchise. Taimur Dar: As I’ve learned, the majority…
Few TV series have left a deeper cultural mark than the Twilight Zone. Debuting in 1959, Rodselling’s groundbreaking anthology blends science fiction, fantasy and horror to tell stories that made them think in a way that makes them feel unsettled. IDW’s The Twilight Zone #1 (outside September 24th) embraces creative choices that feel integral to its legacy. With a pre-copy in hand, I dare to review comics that aim to make readers both shadows and substances, objects and ideas. The first issue Dan Watters wrote with art for Morgan Beam is entitled “Blank.” It aims to lead the same unforgettable…
