ASUS ROG Flow Z13 is starting to make sense as a gaming tablet

The original ROG Flow Z13 was always a bit of an odd machine. It felt like a strange lovechild between a Surface Pro and a traditional gaming laptop. But at CES 2025, ASUS gave the tablet some much-needed refreshes, including a big performance boost thanks to the company’s updated XG Mobile graphics dock.

One of the biggest differences from previous models is that this time around, ASUS is going with an all-AMD configuration, rather than relying on Intel and NVIDIA CPU/GPU solutions. ROG Flow Z13 features up to Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU with up to 128GB of unified memory (though ASUS’ spec sheet actually shows it maxes out at up to 32GB of RAM). Masu). ASUS also says that by using a more power-efficient chip and combining it with a larger 70Whr battery (up from 56Whr), the Z13 will have up to 10 hours more lifespan on a single charge. Masu. Meanwhile, the system remains fairly slim, weighing just 2.6 pounds and only 0.5 inches thick. This means it’s a great choice for portable gaming and productivity.

The Z13’s screen is also very impressive. Although it’s not OLED, its Nebula display features a vibrant IPS panel with a 180Hz refresh rate, up to 500 nits of brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 spectrum coverage. And even with a system this sophisticated, there’s still room for ASUS to include a full-size HDMI 2.1 jack, along with two USB 4 ports, one USB-A, 3.5mm audio, and even a microSD card reader. Thank you also for finding it.

Other subtle updates include a redesigned keyboard with larger keycaps, a more durable PU leather cover, and a much larger touchpad. Inside, there’s also a new steel vapor chamber that ASUS says outperforms traditional copper versions, and the addition of customizable action keys on the side of the system lets you adjust display settings and This makes it easy to call up other apps.

Of course, one of the best parts about the Flow Z13’s adaptability is that when you need even more performance, you can connect it to ASUS’ ROG XG mobile dock, which is also significantly revamped for 2025. Similar design, but now supports up to NVIDIA RTX 5090 for significantly more graphics power. Another big change is that the dock now uses Thunderbolt 5 instead of relying on ASUS’ proprietary XG Mobile port to connect the two devices. The dock also has plenty of connectivity options, including both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 jacks. You can put it on your desk and use it as a hub. Finally, it’s also backwards compatible with the original Z13, giving owners of previous models another way to extend the life of their machine.

Unfortunately, ASUS has not yet provided any information regarding the release date of ROG Flow Z13. However, the device is expected to cost around $2,000 for the version with the Ryzen AI Max 390 chip, or $2,200 when configured with the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU. Pricing for the XG Mobile dock hasn’t been determined yet, but since it’s powered by an RTX 5090, it’s almost certainly going to cost a pretty penny.
