Have you ever started a show, stopped it mid-season, and struggled to get back into it because you didn’t know exactly where you stopped watching or what was going on? Amazon might be able to help you. I don’t know. The company just released a new tool for Prime Video that uses AI to generate personalized summaries.
X-Ray Recaps uses generative AI to create “short, easy-to-digest summaries” of entire TV seasons, single episodes, or portions of episodes. They’re all personalized, so your summary will show up to the “exact moment you’re watching.” The company promises details such as “short text excerpts of key cliffhangers, character-driven plot points.”
Adam Gray, vice president of product for Prime Video, said the tool helps customers “quickly get back to what they were watching or rediscover why they fell in love with a series in the first place.” states. It is powered by Amazon Bedrock, the company’s proprietary AWS service for building and scaling AI applications. For those worried about spoilers, the AI is trained to avoid spoilers at all costs.

This is an extension to the existing X-Ray feature that provides trivia and casting information during the stream. I love this tool and am always surprised that other streamers haven’t adopted something like this.
X-Ray Recaps is released today in beta for Fire TV customers. Additional devices are expected to receive support by the end of the year. Currently, it only works with content created by Amazon MGM Studios, including “Upload,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “The Wheel of Time,” and “The Boys.”
