Amazon Prime Video will air a live election night special hosted by Brian Williams. The veteran newscaster will be delivering “Election Results and Analysis” on November 5th at 5pm ET. Interestingly, this is a free special and does not require a Prime membership. It will be livestreamed not only in the United States but around the world.
Williams will be joined by a number of contributors to discuss the election results, and will be led entirely by industry veteran Glenn Weiss. He has directed numerous live events from the Oscars to the Emmys and beyond.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon doesn’t have a news department, so it pulls its results and commentary from third-party sources affiliated with all political parties. “We will follow that story wherever it leads us on election night,” Williams said in a statement.
Albert Chen, vice president and head of Prime Video, said this is a “one-night-only” event, but it’s not unprecedented. Prime Video has made it possible to live stream the first Black Friday NFL game, even if you don’t subscribe to the service.
As for Williams, he hosted the NBC Nightly News broadcast for more than a decade. The newscaster was removed from the program after exaggerations were found in some of the reports, particularly those from Iraq and related to Hurricane Katrina.
