While I generally felt that the Kindle Colorsoft was a solid first for Amazon’s color e-reader, the device had its issues. Our review unit had the same issue after several buyers noted a discolored yellow band at the bottom of the display. The company says it is currently resolving this issue.
An Amazon spokesperson told Engadget: “A small number of our customers have reported a yellow band appearing at the bottom of their display. We take the quality of our products seriously and we have noticed this. Please contact our customer service team,” the statement said. We are accepting exchanges or refunds and are making appropriate adjustments to prevent this issue from occurring on new devices in the future. ”
As The Verge first reported, Amazon is delaying e-reader shipments for the time being while juggling replacement units and new orders. If you already own Colorsoft, you can keep using it (as long as you can tolerate the discoloration) until the company ships you a replacement.
This issue was so severe that we have removed the score from the review until Amazon resolves it. Either way, it’s good that the company is acting fairly quickly to address this issue.
