Amazon is shutting down Freevee, its free ad-supported video-on-demand service. The platform had over 100 original shows from Prime Video’s roster as well as original programming. Freevee will be phased out in the coming weeks and its content will be available as part of Prime Video. Prime Video’s ad-supported tier is included as part of Amazon’s Prime membership for $15 per month.
“In order to provide a simpler viewing experience for our customers, we have decided to phase out the Freevee branding,” an Amazon spokesperson told Variety. “The content available to Prime members remains unchanged, including a selection of original titles from Amazon MGM Studios, a wide range of licensed movies and series, and an extensive library of FAST channels – all available on Prime Video.”
This free viewing platform has undergone several rebranding since it was first launched as IMDb Freedive in January 2019. We entered the final phase as Freevee in April 2022.
