Amazon announces return of Prime Big Deal Days on October 8th and 9th

We’ve known that Amazon would be bringing back its Prime Big Deal Days sales event this fall, but we didn’t know the exact date until today. The online retailer announced that the sales event will return this year on October 8th and 9th, meaning there’s even more reason to call it Prime Day in October, just like in years past. This is the third iteration of the fall sales event that Amazon has used as the (un)official kickoff of the holiday shopping season, and we’re already seeing discounts pop up in early October for Prime Day deals.

While July’s Prime Day remains Amazon’s flagship sales event for Prime members, since its inception in 2022, October’s Prime Day has offered members thousands of exclusive deals over the two-day period. As a result, it’s a way for Amazon to boost sales during the period and, perhaps more importantly, increase the number of Prime members overall. While most of the sales on Prime Big Deal Day are expected to be exclusive to Prime members, it always includes a few sales available to all Amazon shoppers.

Expected bargains are sure to include sales on Amazon’s own devices, such as Echo speakers, Kindle e-readers, and Blink security cameras. Technology like wireless earbuds, speakers, robot vacuums, and SSDs are also often on sale at these events. It may feel like it’s too early to be thinking about holiday shopping, but it’s a good idea to consider it. If past examples are any indication, Prime Day sale prices in October will be similar (and in some cases, the same) as Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale prices this year. If you can shop early and cross a few things off your list, we recommend doing so.

There will also be a few “lightning sales” happening on Prime Day in October. Thankfully, these sales usually have a clear time left to take advantage of the sale price listed on the product page. In our experience, only a handful of these flash sales are actually worth your money, but if you see an item that’s been on your wishlist marked down for just a few hours, it’s best to grab it quickly.

To give you an idea of what to expect at Prime Day this October, here are some standout deals we saw during the 2023 event.

Engadget will be covering Prime Day in October. If you have a ton of tech products you want to buy, be sure to check us out this Prime Day to find the best tech deals. We’ve got you covered on everything from headphones to robot vacuums to gaming consoles. There are tons of sales to choose from, but to make Prime Day a little easier for you, we’ve combed through them all to pick out the best ones.
