This year’s New York Comic Con is the first since the brave universe renewal of Alien Books, and they are looking to make a big splash. The publisher has announced that it will introduce an all-new variant cover of The Xo Manowar, a title that goes beyond the flagship Valiant, and share it with Converse.
This piece not only features an incredible painting by Ariel Olivetti, but also can be used as a foil cover limited to 500 copies. Aliens and Variants do not exist in the scam itself, but rather appear at the IDW booth to distribute this copy. Shortly after Diamond News was first destroyed earlier this year, Aliens announced their distribution agreement through IDW.
“We are excited to partner with IDW Publishing to debut this incredible foil edition of Xo Manowar #1 in this incredible foil edition at New York Comic-Con this year,” Alien Book boss Matias Timarchi said in a press release. “Can’t wait to connect with fans and retailers on the show and talk about Valiant Comics, Zorro and everything else we’ve planned for 2026!”
Valiant Beyond is the publisher’s answer to Marvel’s ultimate universe and DC’s absolute universe. But beyond that, it is the only brave publishing line that produces for the near future. Some titles have big names like Olivetti and Steve Orlando, but the release of the line got caught up in controversy after Transphobic dialogue appeared in Valiant Beyond: Bloodshot #1. The Alien announced an apology by printing it out.
“Alien book and author Mauro Mantera would like to sincerely apologise for the harm caused by the bloody #1 phrase,” Timarkie offered in a statement at the time. “While the story takes place in a fictional world of vampires and cults, I understand that certain lines of dialogue are read as indicative of the real problems, particularly discrimination faced by trans people.”
Valiant Beyond: Xo Manowar #1 is currently in the shop, with the second issue scheduled to be released next month.
