Ahoy Comics has announced one-shot Thanksgiving #1 for a new horror comedy that will debut this fall. All the 48-page issues written by Mark Rusell, drawn by Mauricet, written by Rob Steen are about how family holidays were horrifying and horribly wrong.
“Thanksgiving is the black comedy that uses the most American holidays as a measure of what our country is at risk,” Russell said. “It tells the story of a nuclear family that has many of the same sectors you found in our country, and how deep the rifts between people can become while we are not paying attention.
“Welcome to the Grants family’s Thanksgiving dinner,” Maurickett said. “Sit at the table. We’re about to start a meal. For appetizers, you have a slightly dysfunctional America wrapped in sarcastic humor. For the main course, we offer you one of the most original serial killers the country knows.
Thanksgiving #1 features three Mauricet covers, including the “blood for dinner” variant and the “death turkey” variant. Check out the interior page preview and all three covers below.
“Mark was mad at something big and wrote this story. I think I’ll help you handle it,” said Tom Peyer, editor-in-chief of Ahoy Comics. “I think it helps us all handle it. I hope he brings it to Ahoy whenever he gets mad. Meanwhile, Maurickett has the best work of his career, and he seems to always be.”
Thanksgiving #1 will be available digitally on October 22nd at local comic shops.
