A new player in the game! Aethon Books, a publisher of science fiction, fantasy and audiobooks, has acquired a majority stake in Vault Comics. The news broke at Forbes.
Aethon and Vault previously partnered for various adaptations of each other’s materials. Now they’re partnering even more. The Vault will continue to be run by CEO Damian Wassel, with Rhett Bruno and Steve Beaulieu from CCO Adrian Wassel Aethon participating in the Vault Board. Conditions are not disclosed.
“Since meeting the team at Vault, we have shared our vision of creating a one-stop shop for the next generation of market-leading fantasy and science fiction writers and their stories. With our efforts with Vault, we believe we are one step closer to that dream.
“The goal is to expand what we can offer to everyone we’ve worked with throughout the publishing line,” Damien Wassel said. He has committed to allowing the increased resources that arise from the acquisition to “significantly expand the marketing budget and resources behind additional product categories and everything that we bring to the comic and graphic novel categories.” He said the announcement of new projects and licenses is approaching.
The Vault had several previous investors, including Jeff Ubben, UTA, Crash Ventures and Metallica/Black Lisrel Partners.
Vault, a model for Scrappy’s Indie Comics Publisher, has marked it with its own line of sci-fi/fantasy titles, including pagans and wild bars. They are currently partnering with musician Post Malone from Big Rig, a Trucking Epic, and are planning other music crossovers. (Disclosure: Big Rig is the current advertising partner of The Beat.)
In February, when Diamond Trouble was brewing, Vault announced it would begin selling directly to retailers while still available via Lunar and S&S.
Aethon Books is a fast-growing publishing company with authors such as Paul Antony Jones, Joshua Gayou, Rick Partlow and actor Lou Diamond Phillips. We also partnered with Webtoon to create scroll adaptations for various series.
