Comes from Graphic Universe™ on September 9, 2025, absolutely everything captures the reality that is Damian Alexander’s vibrant, emotionally resonating intermediate graphic novel, often seen growing up in ADHD, which is often overlooked.
The story follows Marcela, a quirky and lovable sixth grader trying to catch up with school, friendship and family, but it seems that she is constantly distracted and overwhelmed by why she finds life more difficult than anyone else, why herself is distracted and overwhelmed, homework forgotten, conversations wafting, even her best friend seems to be slipping down. When her parents announce that they are in motion, it all feels like too much at once.
Alexander, who previously wrote the other boys in his award-winning memoir, drew inspiration from his own experience navigating middle school with undiagnosed ADHD. “Marcela is actually a character who I used to graffiti on my notebook as a child,” he says. “This story is my way of exploring how I found direction through creativity, even when the world felt overwhelming.”
In his exclusive comment on AIPT, Alexander shared deeper insights into one of the book’s most moving sequences.
“When Marcela struggles to concentrate on her class, she often resigns to her head, especially when she encounters some kind of conflict, such as forgetting her assignment. This sequence is directly drawn from her own experiences in middle school. You may feel Marcela’s expression.”
This book blends humor, heart and expressive art, finds herself understands herself and realizes that she doesn’t need to “correct” who she is to find her place.
“It’s absolutely everything about growth and ADHD,” says Sean Tulien, editorial director of Graphic Universe.
Absolutely everything will be available on September 9th, 2025.
