So far, the absolute Wonder Woman has remixed the familiar ones, like Wonder Woman Historia: Amazon’s idea by Kelly Sue Deconic, Phil Jimenez, Jean Ha and Nicola Scott. She sacrifices her arm to save her love, Steve Trevor. In Absolute Wonder Woman #5, it’s about her lasso, one of the most important elements that makes someone in modern comics.
And boy, is that an impressive twist?
Don’t give too much. However, the new Lasso honors the original Lasso of Truth, adding a witch’s spin. Like past issues, Thompson and Sherman reveal their origins in efficient flashbacks. The theme of motherhood is some of the most emotional, and Thompson robbes that heartwarming relationship here again.

This issue is satisfying thanks to Kaiju Wonder Woman’s fighting to achieve its objectives. It’s not that spoiler, as we all knew that the hero would beat the beast, but she does so with a stylish and surprising twist. That twist includes not only her Greek mythological roots, but Lasso, further cementing this fight on the beaches of Gateway City, incredibly intertwining with her identity. This fight also weaves things into a lovely cliff where you should mix them well.
Normally, when a superhero comic goes into fight comic mode, it’s all intense, but here the creative team has added nuances and details tied to Wonder Woman’s identity. Even if Wonder Woman politely asks the jet’s fighter to not fire another rocket, you’ll still get a bit of character wrinkles.
The Shaman again delivers on a beautifully cleverly rendered and spectacular scale. The colors of Jordie Bellaire match Sherman’s layout structure and range, and match the toned, dark atmosphere that matches the absolute universe. The white glow of Hecate is perfect for incredible power and beauty. That respectful sensation is Diana’s eyes, well rendered with red, making her feel more impressive and inhuman.
