Oni Press released the latest installment of its “Quick & Easy Guides” series on Tuesday. This time we’re focusing on how to form and maintain healthy relationships.
Written and illustrated by cartoonist Mariah Rose Marie, A Quick & Easy Guide to Healthy Relationships takes place in a fictional multicultural neighborhood called Sun Heights. However, it deals with real-life issues and provides tips to overcome all kinds of difficult situations.
Today, The Beat is offering an exclusive preview of the book, featuring advice on how to deal with difficult times in friendships. See below.
In announcing the book earlier this year, Marie said, “It’s packed with relatable little stories of drama, humor, heartbreak, and healing, with a feel somewhere between Richard Scarry’s Busy Busy Town and MTV’s Downtown. People of all ages and backgrounds will come away from this book with insight into how to be more thoughtful and considerate of themselves and, in turn, those around them.”
“It feels like the perfect moment to share this book. I can’t wait for you to get your hands on it!” Marie added.
Oni’s “Quick & Easy Guide” series features educational comics on topics such as they/them pronouns, queer and trans identities, consent, sex and disability, asexuality, and more. Each topic is designed to be approachable to a wide audience at any stage of learning about a particular topic. As such, they are short, often to the point, and provide introductory-level information that can be quickly absorbed and applied.
Rose’s book guides readers on how to recognize and strengthen positive patterns in family, platonic, romantic, professional, and communal relationships, with an emphasis on self-care. Tips include how to set and maintain healthy boundaries, strengthen bonds, navigate difficult conversations, and more.
A Simple Guide to Healthy Relationships is available wherever books are sold.
