Apple announced a ton of new products at its It’s Glowtime event on September 9, but a plastic-shelled Apple Watch SE wasn’t among them. But that doesn’t mean we won’t see one at some point. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who first reported that the company was working on a lower-cost Apple Watch SE, said the plastic SE is “still in development.” Sources told Gurman that it could arrive next year.
The Apple Watch SE was last refreshed with the release of the second-generation line in 2022. The rumored upcoming watch is planned to have a plastic shell as well as bolder colors to appeal to children, Gurman reported. However, Apple appears to have run into manufacturing issues with the plastic design. Official Apple Watch news last Monday focused on the Series 10, which will be thinner and feature a larger display, as expected before the event. Engadget’s Billy Steele, who went hands-on with the new wearable, called the Series 10’s brighter wide-angle OLED display a “significant upgrade” compared to other recent models.
